Summary
- Majins encompass many demonic and magical beings, not just one race.
- Majin Buu and his unique species are artificial Majins, known for their stretchy skin.
- Majin Ogres, evil beings, appeared in non-canon material but might canonically exist in the Demon Realm.
As a longtime fan of Dragon Ball, I must say that this latest revelation about the origins of life in the multiverse is nothing short of mind-blowing! It’s fascinating to think that a large portion of all sentient beings could have some Majin DNA in them – it adds a whole new layer to the rich lore and history of the series.
heads up: what follows may reveal plot points from Dragon Ball Daima’s Episode 10 titled “Ocean”, currently available on Crunchyroll.
In the Dragon Ball series, there seems to be some misconception about what Majins truly represent. While some might consider them as a specific race, that’s not entirely accurate. The term “Majin” encompasses various races and species. Generally, beings with demonic or magical origins are classified as Majins. Since most intelligent species hailing from the Demon Realm belong to this group, they are often referred to as Majins, excluding a few exceptions like the Namekians. However, there are also some entities outside the Demon Realm that fall under the Majin category.
In the Dragon Ball universe, the term “Majin” isn’t synonymous with all beings from the Demon Realm. While “Demon People” could be an accurate translation of Majin, it’s not entirely correct as characters like Demon King Piccolo and Garlic Jr., who are Demons, aren’t classified as Majins. In Xenoverse games, however, Majins are often considered part of the Demon Clan, but this isn’t universally accepted across the franchise. Moreover, unlike all Demons, not every Majin is evil or malicious. Many Majins live ordinary lives, while some, such as Panzy and reformed Majin Buu, possess kind hearts.
The Different Types of Majins
The Majins of the Demon Realm
In the realm known as the Demon Realm, I’ve come across an assortment of creatures going by the name Majins. Their forms range from beings that resemble humans like Panzy and Glorio, to hybrid humanoids with distinct animal traits, such as the diverse population of civilians in Dragon Ball Daima. Then there are the more peculiar beings, like Gomah and Hybis. It can be a bit perplexing since the various Majins of the Demon Realm aren’t categorized by race within the series. Instead, they’re all referred to as Majin, despite having diverse skin tones and physical characteristics. However, a common trait among them is an innate aptitude for magic and pointed ears.
Previously noted, it’s important to clarify that while some inhabitants of the Demon Realm may share characteristics such as a predilection for magic and elongated ears with Majins, not all sentient species within this realm fall under the category of Majin. For instance, Namekians and Glinds are magical beings with pointed ears, but they do not hold the designation of Majin.
Majin Buu’s “Species”

The name might be a dead giveaway, but yes, Majin Buu is a Majin, albeit a very unique one. Buu is an artificial creation made by a Majin witch in the Demon Realm named Marba. As such, there are not a lot of members in his species, which the English release of the manga refers to as “Djinn”. While in the anime and manga, Majin Buu and Majin Kuu are so far the only beings belonging to this species, several more characters from various Dragon Ball video games do. The games aren’t canon to the anime and manga though, so take that however you will.
The unique trait of Buu’s kind is that their skin has a rubbery or bubblegum-like texture, which isn’t just for aesthetic purposes. This elastic skin enables them to transform their bodies into various shapes and provides remarkable healing capabilities. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain if Majin Kuu possesses these features, considering he carries Saibaman DNA in addition to Majin Buu’s genetic makeup.
Ogres

Initially, it’s important to clarify that when we talk about Ogres here, we are not referring to the horned beings who govern the Other World under King Yemma. Instead, these Ogres belong to a different variant, the Majin Ogres, which although less prominent, are still significant. In the movie “Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle,” Majin Ogres were introduced as an evil race. These creatures typically serve more powerful entities such as Demon God Lucifer and Demon King Shula.
In my world of fascination, I can’t help but delve into the terrifying allure of Majin Ogres. Unlike their counterparts from another realm who bear a striking resemblance to humans with vibrant blue and red complexions, these beasts are something else entirely. Whereas Other World Ogres maintain a humanoid form, Majin Ogres veer towards the monstrous, their appearance more fear-inducing than anything I’ve ever encountered.
A Good Chunk of Life in the Multiverse May Have Started as Majins
The Demon Realm Majins Are the First Citizens of the Multiverse

In episode 10 of “Dragon Ball Daima”, titled “Ocean”, Shin, the Supreme Kai, shares with Goku’s group a detailed account of the history of the multiverse beyond the Demon Realm. His narrative sheds light on various aspects of “Dragon Ball” lore, such as the origin of life in the multiverse. It appears that the initial beings to inhabit the multiverse were Majins who had migrated from the Demon Realm. This suggests that a significant proportion of all life, particularly sentient life, in the multiverse may carry some Majin genetic code. However, it’s important to note that not all life traces back to the Majins. Some life forms were created by the Supreme Kais, who are responsible for populating the universe with life, and others might have emerged naturally.
Not every being, for instance, Earthlings and Saiyans, came into existence before the creation of your universe, as they emerged afterwards.
Dragon Ball is now available to stream on Crunchyroll.
