With the release of the HD-2D Remake of Dragon Quest I & II, players are curious about how the game’s structure compares to the original versions. While the remakes stay true to the spirit of the classics, some changes have been made to modernize the experience and improve gameplay. These updates mostly focus on convenience, but Dragon Quest II has seen more substantial revisions. This guide offers a complete list of missions for both Dragon Quest I & II, and estimates how long it will take to finish both games.

How Long to Beat Dragon Quest 1 Remake:
The Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake is noticeably shorter than the second game, with most players finishing the main story in around 10 hours. Unlike some RPGs, DQ1 Remake feels like one continuous adventure rather than a collection of separate main and side quests.
How long it takes to finish the game varies depending on how challenging you find it and how much of the world you want to see. While dedicated players, especially those aiming to collect all 40 mini medals in Dragon Quest 1 Remake, could easily play for over 10 hours, most players will likely spend around that amount of time.
Dragon Quest 2 Remake Mission List

The Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake is a much bigger game than the first Dragon Quest. It has a vast overworld that players can freely explore. The game is divided into three main parts: beginning your journey and getting a ship, collecting five sigils, and ultimately confronting Hargon.

Part 4: Exploring the World, First Sigil, Recruit Princess of Cannock
Now that you’ve progressed in Dragon Quest 2 Remake, you have a few different places you can go. If you’re using the objective markers, you’ll see four options: Beran, Zahan, Burrowell, and Tantegel. You could also just wander around and explore, but be warned β the enemies you encounter from here on out will be much tougher!
You can tackle these missions in any order you like. However, if you’re playing on the harder Dragon or Draconian difficulties, be prepared to spend some extra time leveling up. We chose to start with Tantegel because it was the nearest location. After that, we headed to Beran, where we recruited the Princess of Cannock β the last character to join our team. We then completed Zahan, and finally Burrowell.
Tantegel β East of Rippleport
- 23. Tantegel β From Rippleport, this is the closest option.

- 43. Dirkandor β Speak to the King to receive the Moon Sigil
Okay, so about the Lighthouse and the Star Sigilβ¦ you can head there pretty much whenever you want during this part of the game. It’s not one of the first four things you have to do with the ship, so don’t feel rushed! You can try it right away, or save it for after you deal with Dirkandor. Just know you’ll need to find all three sigils β the Sun, the Moon, and the Star β before you can move forward.

This list highlights the key places in the story, but it’s not exhaustive. Many other locations offer valuable equipment and items to help you and your party prepare for Hargon. We highly recommend taking the time to explore beyond the essential destinations.
How Long to Beat the Dragon Quest 2 Remake
The remake of Dragon Quest II HD-2D is a significantly longer game than the first one. Players can expect to spend at least 30 hours finishing the main story. In our playthrough, we completed most of the game β collecting 53 out of 80 mini medals, finding all of Erdrickβs equipment, and exploring every location β in 42 hours. We were able to finish a bit faster by playing at the quickest battle speed and using a combination of the Dracky and Dragon difficulty settings.
