Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince now on PC and mobile

As a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of the Dragon Quest series, I must say that Square Enix has outdone themselves with “Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.” Having played it on my Nintendo Switch last year, I can attest to its captivating gameplay, rich storyline, and the sheer joy of collecting and training adorable monsters.

Square Enix has made available Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince across PC, iOS, and Android platforms, boasting all downloadable content from its Nintendo Switch version.

In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, I find myself as Psaro, the Demon Prince, cursed to never harm monsters. To survive in this fantastical world of Nadiria, I’ve taken up the role of a Monster Wrangler, rounding up and fighting alongside these magical creatures across diverse landscapes. As the seasons change from Spring to Summer, Fall, and Winter, not only does the scenery shift, but so do the types of monsters I can encounter. This dynamic world offers new areas to explore and a constant stream of fresh challenges!

Some of the features for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on PC include:

  • The Mole Hole: In this special dungeon, scout monsters that have already been befriended once before. The Mole Hole provides ample opportunity to reunite easily with monsters that only appear during specific seasons or weather conditions, and even those that can only otherwise be obtained via synthesis.
  • Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym: Explore the randomly generated dungeons to battle legions of powerful monsters.
  • Treasure Trunks: A mysterious treasure chest containing exciting rewards that can be opened once every hour allowing players to get their hands on some helpful items.

Last year when it debuted on Nintendo Switch, we assessed it and stated that fans of the Dragon Quest Monsters series would appreciate many aspects of The Dark Prince, featuring engaging monster rearing and turn-based combats that remain enjoyable. However, its performance detracts significantly from the overall game experience and falls far short of acceptable standards. If you can overlook the frame rate issues and have a fondness for cute monsters, you’ll discover one of the best examples within the genre in this surprising comeback.
