As a long-time fan of the Dune franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Dune: Awakening”. Having grown up reading the epic saga and revisiting it multiple times over the years, I’ve eagerly awaited a game that truly captures the essence of this extraordinary universe.
At Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live event, it was disclosed that the game titled “Dune: Awakening” is scheduled for PC release in early 2025. A console version launch date hasn’t been declared yet. This survival-themed game, “Dune: Awakening“, takes place on the planet Dune, where gamers must gather Spice, swear allegiance to a House, and construct a resilient base to survive the tempests of Arrakis.
At Gamescom in 2022, Dune: Awakening was first unveiled. After that, there wasn’t much news until early 2024. Since then, fans and potential players have been privy to more information about the game’s setting, as well as what it won’t include at its launch. This build-up led to the revealing of a gameplay trailer during the 2024 Gamescom showcase.
In the extended gameplay unveiling of Dune: Awakening at the ONL Showcase, it was disclosed that the game will debut on PC around early 2025. The exact month wasn’t specified in the announcement, but it seems likely it will come out during the first three months of 2025. Furthermore, the trailer did not disclose a release date for the console versions, so the launch dates for Xbox and PlayStation platforms remain to be announced.
PC Release for Dune: Awakening Announced, Consoles TBA
The preview additionally delved into the diverse gameplay elements that will be featured in Dune: Awakening. This game is set on a timeline different from reality, where House Harkonnen maintains control over Arrakis. A nameless character, who has been imprisoned, manages to break free and finds refuge among deserters within the dunes. Players can opt for a solo adventure or team up, but regardless, they’ll need to collect resources, establish a settlement, and combat various adversaries to endure.
In the combat style of the Sword Master, players jump straight into battle, using a shield to deflect harm before eliminating all adversaries. They also have the option to use a Hunter Seeker to eliminate enemies from afar. However, players can’t kill sand worms in Dune: Awakening, so caution is required when collecting Spice. For those craving more battles, they can swear allegiance to House Harkonnen for extra content.
In the game of base construction within ‘Dune: Awakening’, enhancing and advancing your technology will provide you with the Blood Purifier, a device that converts blood into usable water. You can save your bases as blueprints for convenient relocation. These blueprints aren’t just handy for moving; they can also be sold to other players, offering skilled builders an additional way to earn in-game currency and giving combat enthusiasts a swift method to acquire a fully operational camp.
