Dune Awakening Confirms Fan Requested Launch Feature, But There’s A Catch

Summary

  • Funcom adds a fan-requested feature to Dune: Awakening, but opinions are split due to the catch involved.
  • The MMO will have private servers that exist alongside others in a public sector.

Funcom, the developer behind Dune: Awakening, has revealed that a feature long-desired by fans is being incorporated into the upcoming game. However, fan reactions are divided over a certain condition attached to it. The game, inspired by Frank Herbert’s renowned Dune novel series and brought to life in recent blockbuster films by Denis Villeneuve, is a multiplayer survival title set in an alternate timeline where the central character Paul Atreides never existed.

Before the release of the game “Dune: Awakening”, Funcom unveiled several editions available for purchase. There are three options for players to choose from. The Standard Edition includes benefits such as the Sunset Dye Global Swatch. The Deluxe Edition provides extra features like a Season Pass, Sardaukar Bator Armor, and early access beginning May 15 (Head Start bonus). Last but not least, the Ultimate Edition offers additional content including the Caladan Palace Building Set, a digital artbook and soundtrack, a costume from the 2021 film, and more.

According to a blog post on Steam, Funcom has confirmed that the game Dune: Awakening will include private servers. However, this feature comes with a somewhat complex condition – player-created servers will coexist within a larger public world, allowing characters to interact in social hubs and the Deep Desert. In essence, these private servers will be integrated into a public environment, which not everyone is entirely pleased about. The release dates for Dune: Awakening have been made known, with eager gamers already anticipating access to the private sectors of the game. While some details may initially leave fans perplexed, it’s expected that things will become clearer once players get hands-on experience with the gameplay.

Dune: Awakening Announces Private Servers

After the successful beta test of Dune: Awakening, which attracted close to 40,000 concurrent players, there’s a split in the community over the specifics of the private servers. Some fans are thrilled, praising the developers for creating one of the finest games in its genre, but others remain unimpressed. One user on Steam argued that it was unfair to restrict players from managing their own server exclusively for friends, referring to this as a form of “cheating customers.

As a diehard gamer eagerly anticipating the release of Dune: Awakening, I’m absolutely pumped about the unveiling of its endgame combat system! The Landsraad, a central hub in the game, brings together the Great Houses and introduces some intense political decision-making that significantly impacts the entire community. On top of that, the Schools of the Imperium—a feature that was off-limits during beta testing—will allow us to educate our characters in various schools, thereby unlocking different segments of the skill tree and unique abilities. I can’t wait to jump into this epic universe!
