Get ready to tread on the sands of Arrakis alongside fellow Dune enthusiasts as we eagerly approach the launch of Dune: Awakening on May 20, 2025. Some lucky players will get a head start with “Advanced Access” for five days, a privilege exclusively offered to those who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition.
And it seems the advanced access has more practical reasons to exist as well:
Joel Bylos, Creative Director of Dune: Awakening, mentioned that this approach lets players join the game sooner, yet it’s crucial because it assists in managing the server traffic effectively.
According to Director Joel Bylos, on Funcom’s YouTube channel, it was clarified that the live service game won’t adopt a subscription-based model similar to World of Warcraft.
Once you buy the main game at a cost of $50, you’ll find that numerous complimentary updates are on their way during its active period.
Moreover, not just the game’s updates will be free, but it will also offer additional paid Downloadable Content (DLC) as an option. This extra content can be purchased separately or in a bundle called a Season Pass.
It’s understandable that a live-service game has to generate revenue, but this method offers players greater freedom in interacting with the game’s content, enabling them to select the additional content packs (DLCs) that best match their gaming style.
