Dune Awakening Playtest NDA

Time is often seen as a healing balm for wounds, but it can also bring a fair amount of aggravation when discussing release dates. This is a lesson learned by Funcom, developers of Dune: Awakening, after they announced that their highly anticipated MMORPG would not launch until June 10th.

To help ease tensions, the company has opted not to enforce a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for their upcoming playtest, which promises to be our largest one so far.

fun fact: The upcoming beta weekend by Funcom won’t have any Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), so you’re free to discuss anything related to it and even live-stream the game for everyone to enjoy!

Moving away from Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) isn’t groundbreaking, per se, but it aligns with the increasing trend towards openness and transparency in interactions between leading game developers and their player base.

Previously this week, Bungie, the developer of Destiny, took away Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) from the alpha trials of the game Marathon. Contrastingly, EA has chosen to maintain NDAs in its Battlefield Labs project at present, as these tests are considered quite distant from the ultimate product. Despite this, information leaks have continued to surface, with numerous hours of footage being shared publicly.

Dune Awakening Playtest Dates

As announced by Funcom, the upcoming Dune Awakening playtest is scheduled from May 9th through May 12th during their extensive beta weekend event.

In addition to there being no Non-Disclosure Agreement, this session offers players a chance to delve into the majority of Act 1 themselves. Funcom anticipates that it will take approximately 20 hours to finish this act.

On Saturday, May 10th, there’ll be a live broadcast of the Dune Awakening LAN party. This exciting event will happen concurrently in London and Boston, offering standard gaming sessions, creator contests, and developer Q&A sessions.

You can gain access to the beta weekend by making a request on the game’s Steam page, or receive codes during the live streaming of the LAN party.
