Dune: Awakening is just days from launch, but Funcom still have some bombshells to drop about it.
Initially, private servers were not included in the survival MMO upon its release, a factor that discouraged some enthusiasts from even attempting the game.
On the other hand, Funcom announced that they’ve been making faster-than-anticipated advancements in the development of private servers. As a result, these servers are planned to be accessible right from the game’s launch.
Dune: Awakening will be launched on June 10, but if you’ve pre-ordered the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition, you can get early access from June 5.
How Dune: Awakening Private Servers Will Work
As a dedicated gamer diving into the world of Dune: Awakening, let me set your expectations straight – the private servers here aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill experience. They’re unlike anything you’ve played before!
In the game Dune: Awakening, servers are organized into regions called Worlds, which have common areas like the vast expanse of Arrakis’ Deep Desert and social centers. This setup allows for large-scale multiplayer gaming. However, implementing this structure on private servers can be challenging.
On my preferred gaming realm, every server boasts a unique Hagga Basin beginning zone; however, some other zones are communal among servers within the same universe. This rule applies equally to personal or private servers as well.
In the case of Dune: Awakening, the administrators of private servers may find they have less autonomy compared to other games, as these servers will share a portion of their world with multiple other servers.
The authority of owners over their private servers will be confined to deciding if their Hagga Basin includes security zones that forbid Player vs Player (PvP) in specific areas, determining whether their players are liable for taxation, and choosing when sandstorms occur on their server, along with the capacity to assign a name and password.
It’s possible that the three server providers for potential private server owners – GPORTAL, Nitrado, and xREALM – also offer additional customizable options.
Dune: Awakening experienced a somewhat challenging journey on its way to launch, marked by a postponement from its original May 20 release date and mixed feedback during its playtesting sessions.
To my delight, it appears the tide is turning for this game. With that unexpected reveal and the gradual improvement in player responses following the unveiling of its endgame content, I can’t help but feel optimistic about our gaming experience!
