The upcoming game titled “Dune: Awakening” plans to carry out extensive beta testing from May 9 to May 12, prior to its PC launch on June 10. This game is being developed by Funcom, the team known for creating games like “Conan Exiles“. With its release, “Dune: Awakening” aims to transform the famous franchise into a multiplayer survival video game.
2022 saw the announcement by Funcom, a Norway-based developer, of “Dune: Awakening” as one of their games resulting from their partnership with Legendary Entertainment, who produced the recent Dune movies. Since then, they have released several trailers and conducted multiple beta testing phases, stirring excitement among Dune enthusiasts. Originally scheduled for a May 20 release, the developers of “Dune: Awakening” announced in April that the launch would be pushed back to June 10. Most recently, they unveiled plans for another round of beta tests before the much-anticipated game’s arrival.
Funcom has officially revealed that it will host the biggest beta test yet for the upcoming game “Dune: Awakening” in May. If you’re eager to join, simply visit the game’s Steam page to register your interest. This extensive beta testing will offer a vast number of players – more than those involved in previous tests – an opportunity to explore Funcom’s interpretation of the Dune universe’s Sandworm-ridden planet Arrakis. Notably, this phase of the beta includes the initial 20 hours or most of Act 1 of the storyline. What makes this upcoming beta test unique is that there will be no confidentiality agreement required, allowing participants to freely share their gameplay experiences with others. Additionally, Funcom has released a new trailer for the game, showcasing its captivating plot and providing glimpses into the protagonist’s journey.
Dune: Awakening Beta Test Dates
- May 9–12
Starting from the commencement of the beta phase, Funcom plans to host a live LAN party stream on May 10th. This broadcast will offer viewers a sneak peek into different settings within their upcoming project, which draws inspiration from ‘Dune’. As developers delve deeper into the game, they’ll provide insights and breakdowns. Additionally, numerous beta keys (approximately tens of thousands) will be distributed during this event, allowing more enthusiasts to explore ‘Dune: Awakening’ before its official release.
The release date for the PC version of the “Dune” game is confirmed, but we don’t have much information yet about when it will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Last year, a project lead mentioned that creating games for the Xbox Series S was difficult, which might explain why the console versions are taking longer to come out. After “Dune: Awakening” is released on PC, it’s likely that the development of the console port will speed up as Funcom may focus more resources on that project once they have some extra capacity.
