Dune: Awakening’s Release Date Crashes!

Summary

  • The release of Dune: Awakening on PC has been delayed to June 10.
  • An additional beta is planned to take place before the full release in June.
  • The console release date for Dune: Awakening remains unknown due to issues with Xbox Series S.

Funcom, the Norwegian video game developer, has officially announced that the PC release of “Dune: Awakening” will now be on June 10, 2025. Ever since its unveiling nearly three years ago, “Dune: Awakening” has generated much excitement as a promising addition to Frank Herbert’s renowned science fiction series.

In an alternate reality from the books, the multiplayer survival game titled “Dune: Awakening” is set on Arrakis’ desert landscape. Players are tasked with solving the enigma of the Fremen’s disappearance as they traverse this world. Gamers can choose to side with either House Atreides or House Harkonnen, who are engaged in a relentless struggle for control of the planet and its valuable resources. Funcom initially announced that the game would launch in May 2025, but due to player input, there will be a slight postponement before players can embark on their journey within the universe of Dune.

According to the latest announcement on Steam, Funcom has officially set the release date for Dune: Awakening as June 10. This is a shift from the initial release date of May 20, which means a three-week delay. The team in Oslo has shared that this extra time will be used to refine the PC version, with enhancements aimed at providing an optimal gameplay experience right from the start. Although specific details about these improvements haven’t been revealed yet, Funcom confirmed that they are based on feedback gathered during the ongoing closed beta testing, which led to the decision to postpone the game’s launch.

Dune: Awakening Suffers a Short Delay

  • New release date: June 10, 2025

The announcement of the postponement is disappointing to gamers excitedly anticipating their adventure in Arrakis. However, Funcom has assured us that a supplementary beta test will occur within the next month. Although no specific date for the beta has been announced yet, players can prepare early by utilizing the character creation tool for Dune: Awakening, which is set to launch in its entirety in June.

The wait for playing Dune: Awakening on PC is the only impacted version at present, as its console counterpart lacks a set launch date. Funcom opted to focus first on the PC version of Dune: Awakening due to complications with the Xbox Series S. Recognizing that porting the MMO to consoles was tricky because of the less powerful Xbox console, the developers have openly acknowledged this challenge.

Although some may find it disheartening that there’s a three-week delay, the Norwegian developers have confirmed that “Dune: Awakening” is bypassing early access entirely, choosing to release the game in its entirety instead. Unlike many other MMOs, Funcom’s latest creation, “Dune: Awakening,” will not require monthly subscriptions. Instead, it will offer both paid and free DLC packs in the future.
