As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating post-apocalyptic landscapes and battling hordes of the undead, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement as Techland unveils its latest offering – Dying Light: The Beast. Having been an ardent fan since the original Dying Light, I was left wondering what the future held for our beloved franchise after the release of Dying Light 2. Well, it seems my prayers have been answered!

Following some intrigue among its fanbase, Techland unveils their latest title, Dying Light: The Beast, complete with a new trailer that also signals the comeback of main character Kyle Crane. Having previously developed the Dead Island series, Techland then transitioned to the Dying Light franchise, a collection of games that combines zombies, an open world setting, and first-person parkour. It’s no surprise that this combination has resonated strongly with gamers, leading to the creation of an expansion and sequel in the subsequent years.

In contrast to the earlier game, Dying Light 2 progressed the storyline, effectively concluding the events of the first game and its characters. Like its predecessor, Dying Light 2 was expected to receive substantial post-release content and updates, ensuring ongoing player engagement with a variety of new content such as cosmetics, seasonal events, and numerous crossovers featuring franchises like The Walking Dead, For Honor, and others. Despite the success of Dying Light 2 by Techland, there was curiosity about the franchise’s future. At Gamescom 2024, Techland finally addressed these queries with a major announcement.

At Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live event during Gamescom 2024, Techland unveiled its upcoming game titled Dying Light: The Beast. The trailer begins with soldiers apparently tracking something, oblivious to the fact that they are being pursued by a creature that is not human. As time passes, the soldiers encounter the gruesome aftermath of their comrades’ deaths, followed by their own demise at the hands of the monster. Not long afterwards, the scene changes to depict the sunrise over a city and Kyle Crane standing on a rooftop, his eye bloodshot, suggesting strongly that perhaps Kyle was the Volatile stalking the soldiers throughout the night.

Kyle Crane Returns in Dying Light: The Beast

Although specifics about Dying Light: The Beast are limited, the return of Crane implies that the ending from the canon storyline has been confirmed. Despite players having the freedom to decide how they wanted to conclude Dying Light: The Following’s narrative, Techland appears to have chosen the non-nuclear scenario for this sequel. In this game, Kyle succumbs to his infection completely and transforms into a fully conscious Volatile.

The upcoming game titled “Dying Light: The Beast” was recently revealed due to a trademark filing, leading many to believe it would be an additional expansion for “Dying Light 2“. However, upon further information, it appears that the original plan was for this to be an expansion, but Techland decided to broaden the horizons of this standalone adventure instead. It has been confirmed that Kyle will reappear within a new city, along with fresh gameplay elements. Moreover, those who own the “Dying Light 2 Stay Human” Ultimate Edition can look forward to enjoying this content free of charge.
