The upcoming expansion for Dying Light, titled The Beast, won’t be coming out in August as planned, as its creators, Techland, need an extra four weeks to fine-tune the game and ensure it’s the best version of Dying Light they’ve ever released. Originally scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on August 22, with a later release on last-gen consoles, the new launch date is now set for September 19. It remains uncertain if this delay also affects the game’s releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Initially, “Dying Light: The Beast” was intended as downloadable content for “Dying Light 2”. However, when some story details from the game’s second DLC were leaked, Techland started contemplating about reintroducing Kyle Crane, the main character from the original “Dying Light”. This idea eventually grew beyond just a DLC and “Dying Light: The Beast” was created. Although it’s not officially “Dying Light 3”, Techland has stated that they are treating it as such. Unfortunately, due to the third installment becoming quite extensive, Techland now needs a few additional weeks to make sure the game is well-polished and ready for release.
The scheduled release date for Dying Light: The Beast has been moved from August 22 to September 19. In a recent announcement, Techland expressed excitement from players following over 150 preview releases this week by journalists and content creators. Although the feedback has generally been positive, with some even labeling it as a “notable game of 2025,” the team decided to postpone the game for an extra four weeks to perform additional polishing work. Techland intends to use the extra time to fine-tune the balance between gameplay elements, enhance the clarity of the user interface, improve physics quality, and refine cutscenes and player animations further.
Dying Light: The Beast Now Releases September 19
The studio expressed enthusiasm over the favorable previews for Dying Light: The Beast, stating that their initial instincts were validated – they’re creating a truly unique and enjoyable game. Techland emphasized that they are diligently gathering feedback and opinions to ensure the fans’ voices are being considered. Although the delay might be disheartening for fans, Techland reiterates its commitment to making Dying Light: The Beast the finest installment in the Dying Light series, hence the additional 4 weeks of refinement to achieve perfection.
It seems we might have to wait a bit longer than anticipated for the release of “Dying Light: The Beast“, but on a positive note, players who own the Ultimate Edition of “Dying Light 2” will get the third game at no additional charge. Previously, it was planned as a DLC for “Dying Light 2“, so originally it should have been included with the Ultimate Edition’s package. To keep their promise, Techland has confirmed that they will provide “The Beast” to those who already own the now-delisted Ultimate Edition of “Dying Light 2” for free.
