Techland’s franchise director, Tymon Smektala, recently detailed upcoming content for Dying Light: The Beast in a blog post. He discussed the new ‘Call of the Beast’ challenge, the addition of New Game+, and a future ‘Nightmare Mode’ coming to the game.
According to Tymon, the design of Nightmare Difficulty drew inspiration from games like Alien: Isolation and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Dying Light: The Beast is the Gift That Keeps on Giving
Dying Light: The Beast is an impressive open-world zombie game, especially considering it started as downloadable content for Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Tymon Smektala recently shared details about everything coming in The Beast on the Pilgrim Outpost.
The post covered several topics, including Legend Levels, PC ray tracing, and a partnership with PUBG Mobile, but the most interesting news came from the talk about Nightmare Mode.
We’re exploring ways to make our boss fights more surprising and less predictable. We’re also thinking about improvements to our Volatile enemies, taking cues from games like Alien: Isolation and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. These are just ideas at this point, so we don’t want to make any firm promises yet.
Nightmare Mode will become available after we release the New Game+ and Legend Levels updates. According to Tymon, it won’t just be about tougher enemies – it’s designed to be a smarter, more engaging challenge.
While enemies will be tougher and the game will present a greater challenge, that’s not the main goal. We’re aiming for a more believable and immersive survival experience, so we’re adding some new gameplay features to reflect that.
Players of Dying Light: The Beast can participate in a long-term challenge series that lasts until 2026. By completing community challenges, they can earn unique rewards. The first challenge asked players to collectively ‘slice off’ 60 million limbs of enemies.
