Electronic Arts (EA) has clarified that Battlefield 6, contrary to some earlier speculations, will not be priced higher than their typical releases. This confirmation arrives just prior to the anticipated unveiling of its multiplayer gameplay, set for July 31st.
In the last couple of days, there has been a buzz among Battlefield enthusiasts regarding a possible increase in the price of Battlefield 6. The source of this concern stems from a reliable insider who revealed that the game might retail for €80 in Europe, which approximately equates to $90 in the US. Given Electronic Arts’ previous hesitance to alter prices based on region and numerous major publishers adopting the $80 price point for top-tier AAA games, there has been a rapid escalation of speculation about this matter.
As a dedicated gamer, I must admit I had my doubts when EA initially promised not to raise the price of Battlefield 6 beyond the usual $70. But recently, during their Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that there are still no plans to hike up the prices of AAA games. He emphasized that EA offers a variety of gaming experiences, from free-to-play options to premium editions, and we shouldn’t expect any significant changes in pricing in the near future. So, for now, it looks like we can continue enjoying our favorite games at the standard $70 price point.
No Price Increase to $80 for Battlefield 6, EA Confirms
In simpler terms, Wilson’s remarks strongly suggest that Battlefield 6 is unlikely to follow the $80 pricing strategy that some companies have experimented with recently. This price increase was first introduced by Nintendo for Mario Kart World, a move that attracted significant criticism. Not long after, Microsoft announced that future AAA Xbox games would cost $80. However, the upcoming Obsidian RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, was initially planned to be the first $80 Xbox release this year, but Microsoft later reversed their decision due to public opposition.
Over time, we’ll explore different ways to provide exceptional worth to our players via diverse pricing models, however, significant adjustments aren’t on the agenda for now.
In a surprising twist, Electronic Arts (EA) has chosen to maintain the $70 price tag for Battlefield 6, despite some gamers longing for the return of the $60 era. Given Battlefield 6’s significant status within EA and its development by multiple studios, it seems prudent to steer clear of the discontent often linked with $80 games, especially as Battlefield 6 is set to launch in fall 2025. For now, EA appears content to keep prices steady, but if major releases like GTA 6 start normalizing a higher price point, EA may eventually follow suit with their future AAA games.
