A recent marketing email from EA, the game publisher, states that the next Battlefield 6 game will be able to run at up to 120 FPS when using Performance Mode on gaming consoles. While achieving this frame rate in Performance Mode isn’t unusual for first-person shooters-Black Ops Cold War from 2020 demonstrated this-Battlefield 6 is designed as a fully modern game with massive battles, extensive destruction, and stunning graphics.
Performance and Fidelity modes first appeared with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider let players pick between playing at 30 frames per second with a 4K resolution, or 60 FPS at 1080p. These graphical options became more common with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as most major AAA games gave players the choice between faster frame rates or improved graphics. Now, the PlayStation 5 Pro is pushing things even further. Games such as Mafia: The Old Country can now offer Variable Refresh Rate, support for 120Hz displays, and a higher dynamic resolution in both graphical modes.
Battlefield 6’s Performance Mode Supposedly Hits 120 FPS on Consoles
Both EA and DICE have previously announced they’re prioritizing consoles for Battlefield 6, mainly because of the widespread cheating problem in PC multiplayer games. Now, it appears they might be strengthening this strategy. A recent marketing email from EA states that Performance Mode will be able to deliver 120 FPS on consoles. While this could be specifically for the PlayStation 5 Pro, the email doesn’t specify exactly which consoles will be capable of achieving these high frame rates.
Digital Foundry’s testing of the Battlefield 6 open beta showed the game could reach up to 110 frames per second (FPS) on a standard PlayStation 5. This suggests that all consoles will likely support 120 FPS when playing in Performance Mode. The report also indicates that, generally, Battlefield 6 runs at around 80-90 FPS on consoles. However, it’s important to remember that even if Battlefield 6 reaches 120 FPS, you’ll need a 120Hz monitor or TV to actually see and benefit from the increased frame rate.
Only a few days remain until Battlefield 6 launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The latest installment in the series is scheduled to release on October 10th and has rapidly become one of the year’s most awaited games, especially after its very popular open beta in August. The beta test set new records for the Battlefield franchise, becoming the biggest beta ever for the series – it even exceeded the number of players simultaneously using the Call of Duty HQ app on Steam, which includes both Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
