EA Game Cancellation Breaks 17-Year Tradition

The next F1 racing game from EA and Codemasters won’t come out until 2027, ending a run of new games every year for the past 17 years. While this means more content is planned for the current game, F1 25, fans who are hoping for a completely new installment will have to wait a bit longer.

The F1 series is known for being one of the most realistic racing game simulations available. Codemasters first released a game in the series in 2000 for PlayStation and PC, along with two related titles: F1 Championship Series 2000 and F1 Manager. New games were released annually until 2003, and after a short break, fans have enjoyed at least one new F1 game every year since 2009.

F1 Racing Series is Skipping Out on 2026

The annual F1 game series, which had released a new title every year for 17 years, will pause after the May release of F1 25. EA has announced there won’t be a new game in 2026, but a 2027 installment is still planned. Codemasters’ Lee Mather, the game’s creative director, assured fans the team remains dedicated to the series, highlighting the success of F1 25. He described the 2027 game as a fresh start for the F1 series, promising more gameplay choices and a new overall experience for players.

Rather than launching a completely new game, EA will be expanding F1 25 with paid downloadable content in 2026. While details are currently limited, the expansion promises to add more teams, drivers, cars, and updated rules to the existing F1 25 game. The price hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be less expensive than a full game release. Players will need to own the base F1 25 game, an EA account, and an internet connection to access the expansion.

The next installment in the racing series will focus on modern motorsports, building on the features players already love. EA and Codemasters are working with all Formula 1 teams to develop the 2027 game, but fans will need to wait for more details on how these changes will come together.
