EA Game is Shutting Down on July 13

As a fan, it’s frustrating to see EA announce another game they’re shutting down in 2026 – that makes six games now! It’s a weird situation because they do tell us in advance when servers are going offline, which is good – it gives us a chance to enjoy the game before it changes or disappears completely. But honestly, it’s a real downer that so many games are being shut down that they need to keep a list of them! It just feels like games aren’t meant to last anymore.

2026 has barely begun, and Electronic Arts (EA) is already discontinuing several games. The servers for Anthem went offline on January 12th, effectively ending support for the game despite any fan attempts to keep it running. The Sims Mobile followed on January 24th, and NBA Live 19 was shut down on January 30th. Now, another EA game has been announced for closure, so fans should take note of the date.

EA has announced that the servers for Madden NFL 23 will be turned off on July 13th. After that date, you won’t be able to play the game online, meaning you won’t be able to access all of its features or earn all the achievements and trophies. Most Madden NFL fans have likely already upgraded to newer versions of the game, but this change will affect some players, particularly those who prefer to buy older titles. If you want to experience everything Madden NFL 23 has to offer, you’ll need to play before July 13th.

List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2026

  • Anthem – January 12
  • The Sims Mobile – January 24
  • NBA Live 19 – January 30
  • Real Racing 3 – March 19
  • Madden NFL 23 – July 13
  • Apex Legends (Switch) – August 4

It’s not just Madden NFL 23 that EA is shutting downReal Racing 3 will also stop working on March 19th. The news of Real Racing 3‘s shutdown upset many players, as it’s been popular for over ten years and has a loyal fanbase. If you haven’t already downloaded the game on your iPhone or Android device, you won’t be able to play it, as it was removed from app stores in December 2025 before the servers close.

The final EA game currently scheduled to shut down in 2026 is the Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends. When Apex Legends first launched, it was incredibly popular, making a release on the widely-used Nintendo Switch seem like a good fit. However, the Switch wasn’t powerful enough to run the game smoothly, leading to technical problems and preventing it from gaining a large player base. While Apex Legends will remain available on other systems, players on the Nintendo Switch will need to enjoy it before August 4th.

If you enjoy playing Madden NFL 24 and use EA Play, be aware that it will be removed from the EA Play Pro and regular EA Play subscriptions on February 17th. If you currently access Madden NFL 24 through EA Play or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll want to get your playtime in before then.
