EA, NFL Extend Licensing Agreement For Madden Through 2030

The popular Madden NFL video game series will continue for years to come! Electronic Arts (EA) and the National Football League (NFL) have reached an agreement to extend their licensing partnership through the 2030 season, ensuring new versions of the game will be released.

This new deal will also keep the league’s license exclusive to EA Sports.

Back in July, TopMob initially revealed that EA and the NFL had reached an agreement. Many expected an official announcement before the end of the year. While it was understood the deal would be for multiple years and involve a record amount of money for NFL gaming rights, Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team was the first to share the specific length of the contract.

During negotiations, EA signaled it was open to sharing its exclusive NFL license. They thought other game companies wouldn’t immediately challenge them, effectively maintaining a similar dominant position as they have with the NHL series. However, the NFL wanted to keep the exclusivity arrangement and was exploring talks with other studios to ensure that happened.

EA ultimately agreed on the NFL’s request, and the deal was finalized shortly after that.

The announcement was initially planned for around the beginning of the 2025 NFL season, but it was delayed. Negotiations surrounding the sale of EA and its transition to a private company caused the hold-up. Once that sale was finalized, preparations for the announcement resumed.
