EA No Longer Releasing The Sims 5, Sticking With Regular Updates To Sims 4

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that EA’s decision to abandon The Sims 5 and focus on expanding The Sims 4 instead feels like a breath of fresh air. After countless hours spent creating virtual families and managing their digital lives in previous iterations, the thought of not having to start all over again is quite liberating.

It’s been made clear by EA that there won’t be a Sims 5 in the near future. Instead, they plan to dedicate their efforts to enhancing and expanding The Sims 4. This announcement was shared on their official site as well as in an interview with Variety.

The company announced that The Sims will break away from traditional, single-release formats and provide players with a wider array of choices than they’ve ever had before, as shared through their official website.

In a conversation with Variety, Kate Gorman, EA vice president and The Sims general manager, explained that the way to understand the decision is to remember how the ‘The Sims’ franchise began with ‘Sims 1’, followed by ‘Sims 2’, ‘3’, and ‘4’. Historically, these games were perceived as replacements for the ones before them.

We’re collaborating with our community to usher in a fresh chapter for ‘The Sims.’ Instead of focusing on replacing past projects, we’ll be expanding the depth and breadth of our existing universe.

The Future Of The Sims From EA

In the future, Electronic Arts (EA) plans to expand The Sims brand as a global franchise, creating various products such as games and films for numerous platforms.

When queried about the status of the franchise, Gorman explained: “In essence, we plan to carry on delivering an HD simulation experience that aligns with expectations for a ‘5’, yet it doesn’t imply starting from scratch or wiping out your progress from ‘4’. Instead, you can expect to build upon what you’ve already achieved.

Further developments for the game, The Sims 4, are scheduled to occur “on a regular basis every two months, unless otherwise stated.” The upcoming update, which includes repairs and a main game upgrade, is set to release this week. You can find all the details about it when the update goes live.

There will also be more expansions to the game for players that add to the game.
