EA Sports FC 25 tactics | How FC IQ will change the game

As a long-time fan of football games, I’m beyond excited about the upcoming changes to tactics in EA Sports FC 25. The introduction of FC IQ and its three pillars – player roles, team tactics, and smart tactics – promises to bring a new level of depth and strategy to the game that will make every match feel unique and challenging.

In EA Sports FC 25, the mechanics behind strategies are undergoing a major transformation. This shift is marked by the addition of player roles, joining Hypermotion V and PlayStyles as the game’s key components. FC IQ will be the third essential element, altering how players approach tactical planning both at the game’s outset and throughout. EA Sports FC 25 tactics: What is FC IQ?

In FIFA 25 from EA Sports, FC IQ will revolutionize how tactics are applied, based on three fundamental aspects: defining roles for players, creating effective team strategies, and employing intelligent tactics.

Player roles

Player roles serve as a blueprint for a footballer’s actions and mindset off the ball, influenced by actual Opta data and advanced AI technology. By implementing these roles, you aim to enhance your team’s tactical awareness and agility during matches, resulting in improved overall performance. In the updated tactics menu, there is a dedicated section where you can monitor each player’s assigned role. Considering playstyles refer to how players act while they possess the ball, roles signify their behavior when they don’t have it. Certain players may even boast multiple roles, offering you additional customization options.

In simpler terms, during the match, we observed some players shifting positions from their traditional roles. For instance, left backs advanced higher up the field and functioned as attacking wingbacks. Central midfielders assumed the half-wing role, moving out wide. A central attacking midfielder utilized the shadow striker role by positioning behind the center forward. These roles could also be customized based on your preference, either making them more mobile or offensive. Additionally, you can view a visual representation of where these decisions will place your player on the field and their positioning with and without the ball. Lastly, you’ll see how well-versed your players are with these roles to ensure that the strategy is suitable for your team.

Team tactics

As a long-time football manager and avid gamer, I’m thrilled about the new layout for team tactics in this game. It’s a game-changer for me, as someone who has struggled in the past to grasp more complex tactical systems. The presets are a godsend, allowing me to set up my team quickly and efficiently. I appreciate that they draw inspiration from real-life clubs and managers, adding an element of authenticity to the experience.

Smart tactics

In simpler terms, using the D-pad, you can implement clever strategies during gameplay. You have the option to access your personalized tactics, select between attacking and defensive focuses, choose commonly used quick tactics like pressing, receive tactical advice, and get notifications. These modifications will be displayed on a digital chalkboard and through AR technology, accompanied by commentary explaining the new strategy. Feel free to adjust your tactics anytime you’d like, and there’s also an easy-access substitutions menu for making swaps without having to navigate deeper menus or listen to suggestions.

So, what else?

  • Players will be able to create five different sets of custom tactics that can be saved, with your predominant one being selected as well, and if you want you’ll be able to share them via a unique code with players on any platform.
  • A new viewpoint in team management allows players to see more information about each player, compare two players at a time, and look at the new familiar player roles tab.
  • The amount of players on the bench is now nine, not five, but this won’t be available on last generation consoles. There is also a bar that shows you how many subs remaining you can make, as well as how many sub windows are left.
  • Assignments in-game let you gain new support during corners by targeting players at the near and back post.
