EA Trademarks ‘FC The Grounds’ For New Open-World Mode

A new trademark has been filed for the upcoming open-world game mode set to launch with EA FC 27.

For months, there’s been a lot of talk, including leaks and rumors, about the new EA Sports game potentially featuring an open world. We even saw leaked gameplay footage back in November 2025 that looked a lot like the open world in NBA 2K. Now, the game’s developers have officially trademarked the name for this new mode.

EA FC 27’s Open World Mode Trademark Surfaces Online

According to a trademark filing discovered by Matheus Gamer on X (formerly Twitter) and reported by FGZ, EA Sports FC has secured the name ‘FC The Grounds’ for a new, open-world game mode. The trademark, filed on January 23, 2026, is described on Justia Trademarks as featuring the letters ‘FC’ arranged in a tilted, triangular shape with a smaller triangle accent, alongside the words ‘THE GROUNDS’ in a unique font.

I’m so hyped! I just heard from a reliable source, FGZ, that EA Sports is finally putting an open-world mode in EA FC 27! Apparently, we’ll be able to explore different ‘Districts’ inspired by famous football countries. Since EA usually releases the new game in September, I’m guessing that’s when we’ll see this one too. Fingers crossed we get an official announcement about this new mode before then – I can’t wait!

Here’s what TopMob discovered from the recent leaks about the new EA FC game: a likely release timeframe, details on game modes and mini-games, and the ability to travel between continents. They’re also curious about the name “FC The Grounds” for the open-world game mode. Share your opinions in the comments, and connect with the TopMob community on their Discord server.
