EA's Iron Man Has a Perfect Opportunity for its Own 'Miles Morales' Moment

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when it comes to Marvel games. The anticipation for EA Motive’s Iron Man has been building since last year, and while the lack of details might be frustrating, it does fuel the imagination.

First unveiled in September 2022, EA Motive’s “Iron Man” video game continues to be shrouded in secrecy. Despite EA reaffirming in April that their “Iron Man” project at Motive remains a key focus, they have yet to disclose any details about the game itself, leaving fans eagerly waiting for official information on the game’s plot and mechanics.

Despite not having seen a trailer for the upcoming Iron Man game, the lack of official details leaves plenty of room for fans to imagine and speculate about the project. EA Motive’s Iron Man could potentially follow an original story with new characters and mechanics yet to be revealed. This open-endedness even allows for the possibility of introducing a supporting character who might provide Iron Man with a narrative arc similar to that of Miles Morales in Spider-Man.

EA Motive’s Iron Man Can Find its Miles Morales in Ironheart

Ironheart’s Comic Origins Explained

Originating from the creative minds of Marvel comics greats Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato, the character Riri Williams made her debut in Invincible Iron Man Vol.3 #7, released in 2016. A prodigious 15-year-old with genius-level intellect, Riri Williams’ backstory finds her enrolling at MIT ahead of schedule. Intrigued by this, she assembled components to craft her own Iron Man armor and utilized it to thwart a prison break at the New Mexico Penitentiary. Ultimately, Tony Stark learns about Riri’s heroics and decides to mentor her. From that moment onward, Riri Williams assumes the mantle of Ironheart and persists in battling crime with refined editions of Stark’s state-of-the-art armors.

Riri Williams first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) within “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and it has been announced that she will receive her own series on Disney+ in the year 2025.

How Ironheart Could Fit Into EA Motive’s Iron Man

Although Ironheart hasn’t officially been announced for EA Motive’s Iron Man game, there are various ways her character could be integrated into the storyline. One potential approach is to follow the example set by Marvel’s Spider-Man, where Miles Morales was initially introduced as a background character. In this scenario, Tony Stark might encounter a group of MIT students in one mission, and Riri Williams could be among them. Later on, players might find themselves tracking down an individual wearing an Iron Man-like suit, triggering the start of Riri’s heroic journey.

Ironheart in EA Motive’s Iron Man Could Pave The Way for a Bigger Appearance in The Future

If EA Motive’s Iron Man game introduces Riri Williams with a quick backstory, it opens up opportunities for her to appear in future games. By drawing on the spirit of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, EA Motive could create a standalone title focusing on Ironheart and her early days as a superhero. This spinoff would offer fans a deeper understanding of Ironheart’s character and her unique identity distinct from EA Motive’s portrayal of Tony Stark.

After Ironheart has her turn in the limelight, there’s an opportunity for EA Motive to reintegrate Tony Stark into the storyline. By merging these two characters, they could create a joint adventure for a possible sequel, similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Having two playable heroes on screen would allow a potential Iron Man sequel to escalate its villains and storyline stakes even further.
