Summary
- EA shuts down online services for Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
- Fans are informed in advance about game shutdown dates, with a list detailing each title affected.
- 12 more EA games are confirmed to be shutting down later this year.
The Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, an online service provided by EA, has been discontinued, making it another EA game to lose its online capabilities. Every year, EA takes down the online services of several games. Despite being upsetting for video game preservation enthusiasts, this move gives players ample notice before any shutdown occurs.
Electronic Arts (EA) maintains a continually updated schedule of games scheduled to discontinue their online services, informing players well in advance about the precise dates when certain titles will no longer offer online support. Notably, several sports games are included on this list, but EA occasionally withdraws online support from other types of games too. As a result, fans have been aware for quite some time that they would eventually lose access to the online modes of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, and as expected, that’s now become reality.
Starting from January 16, Thursday, the online functionality for the video game Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has ceased to function. First introduced in 2015, this golf game received mixed responses upon release, yet due to limited golf-themed games on contemporary consoles, it remained popular among sports enthusiasts. Although offline modes will still be operational, the online aspect is no longer functioning, thereby making certain content unattainable.
List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2025
- Rory McIlroy PGA Tour – January 16
- The Simpsons: Tapped Out – January 24
- Blood & Glory Immortals – January 29
- Contract Killer: Sniper – January 29
- Deer Hunter Classic – January 29
- Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores – January 29
- Eternity Warriors 4 – January 29
- Frontline Commando 2 – January 29
- Frontline Commando: D-Day – January 29
- UFC 3 – February 17
- EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 – March 13
- NCAA 14 – March 13
- Madden NFL 21 – June 30
Sadly, it appears that not only Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, but also The Simpsons: Tapped Out and seven other EA mobile games are set to cease operations in 2025. While Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will still offer some functionality after the shutdown, the remaining games will effectively disappear from existence.
It’s not surprising that this decision has sparked some debate. Many of the Electronic Arts (EA) mobile games scheduled to close in January 2025 aren’t widely played, but The Simpsons: Tapped Out enjoys a devoted fan base who are disheartened by its impending closure. A petition for The Simpsons: Tapped Out has been created in an attempt to find a way to keep the game alive, but EA has yet to address this appeal.
As a devoted gamer, I’m sad to announce that several Electronic Arts (EA) games will be closing their doors later this year. Starting off in February, UFC 3 and EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 will bid farewell on the 17th and 13th respectively. Following closely is NCAA 14 on March 13, with Madden NFL 21 wrapping up the list on June 30. There might be more EA games shutting down in 2025, but for now, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be the first to go this year.
