As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that publisher Nacon has unveiled a fresh JRPG hailing from the creative minds at Midgar Studios. Dubbed “Edge of Memories,” this game is a captivating sequel, taking place in the same enchanting universe as the 2021 RPG gem, Edge of Eternity.
Apart from unveiling a trailer showcasing glimpses of gameplay for their upcoming title, Nacon has also disclosed that Midgar Studios is collaborating with prominent figures in the Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG) industry.
Edge of Memories Has People Behind NieR, Xenoblade And More Behind It
In the recent announcement, Nacon revealed that they are partnering with Raita Kazama, renowned character designer from Xenoblade Chronicles X, scriptwriter Sawako Natori of NieR, vocalist Emi Evans known for her work in NieR and NieR: Automata, composers Yasunori Mitsuda recognized for his works in Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, as well as Mariam Abounnasr from Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and ONINAKI, to develop this upcoming third-person action RPG.
Now that’s an insane ensemble cast of developers to have working on your JRPG!
In the works utilizing Unreal Engine 5, details of Edge of Memories’ narrative have been disclosed: “The upcoming chapter unfolds on the continent of Avaris, where a malady known as the Corrosion transforms flora and fauna into grotesque beings. Eline, a young wandering Soul Whisperer, traverses the land, employing her extraordinary powers to alleviate the suffering of tormented residents. Crafted with Unreal® Engine 5, Edge of Memories plunges players into the center of an enthralling tale that honors classic JRPG elements. The game showcases a lively and vivid world, while its narrative delves into profound themes such as mass migration, a world ravaged by sickness, the search for one’s roots, and the necessity to adapt to a constantly shifting environment.
As a fellow enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the game promises an immersive, action-packed experience. You’ll engage in real-time battles, where you’ll team up with two companions to execute stunning combos. Moreover, you’ll unleash the hidden fury of Eline, our protagonist, as she awakens her Berserk power.
Jeremy Zeler-Maury, CEO of Midgar Studio announces, “We’re excited to extend the universe of the Edge series with a fresh chapter, featuring a unique artistic style and a significant change in gameplay mechanics. Instead of the strategic turn-based style of its predecessor, this installment will offer an engaging Action RPG experience that promises to be more dynamic and immersive. As avid JRPG fans, we’ve put immense passion into this project, and we can hardly wait to introduce it to both dedicated genre fans and those new to the world of JRPGs.
It’s promising that these well-known figures are involved in the development of the RPG. This could potentially improve its performance over Edge of Eternity, which has received a moderate 44% critical rating on Open Critic at present.
Edge of Memories will be released in Fall 2025 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
