Eiichiro Oda Has Already Revealed How Imu Can Be Beaten In One Piece

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.

Wow, the Elbaf arc of One Piece is just blowing my mind! It’s become so clear that Imu is the key player here. I honestly didn’t expect Oda to reveal Imu as the big bad of this arc, and to find out he was pulling the strings at the God Valley Incident too? Incredible! It turns out Roger, Rocks, and all those pirate crews united to fight him – the biggest threat anyone had ever seen. But even though they managed to defeat Rocks, thanks to Domi Reversi, it wasn’t enough. Imu is still out there, and the core problem remains unsolved. It’s setting up to be something huge!

Since then, no pirate has even come close to defeating Imu, and it wouldn’t be an easy fight for anyone. However, the creator, Oda, has actually already shown us how Imu can be beaten. Through the character of Rocks D. Xebec, Oda revealed the method to overthrow Imu and the World Government, paving the way for a completely new world.

Imu Can Be Defeated With Two Devil Fruits

The Nika Fruit And Yami Yami no Mi Are Key To Beating Imu

  • Yami Yami no Mi can cancel the power of the Devil
  • Nika counters the power of Imu

Oda subtly showed us how to defeat the World Government, and specifically Imu, during the Loki flashback in One Piece. He did this through the Rocks Pirates. As fans are aware, Rocks and Imu were enemies, and Rocks, a follower of Davy Jones, aimed to carry out Davy Jones’s true goal.

Follow me and I’ll show you the top of the world itself! — Rocks D. Xebec to his Pirate Crew

Driven by ambition, he intended to defeat Imu and take control of the world. Rocks had a detailed plan, but understood it wouldn’t be simple. His first step was to eliminate the Marines, followed by dismantling the World Government.

To succeed, Rocks D. Xebec required three essential elements. First, he needed the skilled shipbuilders known as the Galleila Giants. With their expertise, he planned to either repair the Noah ship or construct the ancient weapon, Pluton. However, Rocks believed the key to defeating Imu lay in obtaining two specific Devil Fruits. He stated he needed these fruits, one of which was intended for Harald. Considering the evidence, it’s clear he sought the Yami Yami no Mi – a fruit imbued with the Will of Davy, leading him to Blackbeard – and the Nika fruit. Both of these fruits possessed the power to directly oppose Imu’s abilities.

You’ve mistaken me for someone else – I’ve never even met this person. However, I always believe in honoring commitments. — Rocks to Imu

High Level Haki Is Also Required To Beat Imu

Joy Boy Has The Strongest Known Haki In One Piece

Additionally, Oda explained during the Egghead arc that Imu’s abilities can be overcome with exceptionally strong Haki. When Emeth unleashed Joy Boy’s most powerful Haki, it completely neutralized Imu’s powers. This suggests that only someone with incredible Haki, combined with the power of either the Nika fruit or the Yami Yami no Mi, stands a chance against Imu.

The next chapter of One Piece is coming out this week, as it typically does on Sundays. While it will be released in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most fans around the world will be able to read it on November 2nd. The chapter will be available for free on Manga Plus.
