Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

As a seasoned adventurer with years of combat experience under my belt, I’ve encountered my fair share of formidable foes and deadly weapons. Among those, there are three Great Katanas hidden in the DLC that every warrior worth their salt would be eager to get their hands on.

In Elden Ring, having a wide range of weapon options lets you adapt your approach and gaming style to tackle any difficulty the game presents. The fundamental version of this game offers an extensive collection of weapons that let you battle enemies up close with daggers and fists, or keep a safe distance using bows and magic.

As a fan, I’m thrilled about the new possibilities brought by the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion to Elden Ring! This update significantly expands the weapon roster with eight fresh types for us to experiment with. Each new weapon offers unique ways to engage enemies and craft intriguing character builds. Here’s a run-down of all the newly introduced weapons and their functionality:

Throwing Blades

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

In simple terms, the Throwing Blades category in our game is named for its projectile weapons that you can hurl. Unlike regular throwing knives from the base version which were once-use items, these Throwing Blades provide an ongoing supply for your throws.

As a gamer, I appreciate the versatility of Throwing Blades. They suit lighter build characters perfectly and offer the advantage of keeping a safe distance from adversaries during battles. Plus, I can wield them as my off-hand weapon in combination with a primary heavy weapon to attack enemies from afar.

The Throwing Blades weapon class includes the following weapons, and here is how they scale:

Backhand Blades

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

The Backhand Blades weapon class features a collection of weapons that are held with a reverse grip. Given the weapons’ unique grip, it changes how the Tarnished attacks when wielding these weapons. Attacks coming from Backhand Blades involve a variety of spinning slices and thrusts.

You can also dual-wield Backhand Blades to effectively enter a power stance, resulting in increased damage output and faster status build-up. If you prefer a build that allows for quick attacks and overall agility, you cannot go wrong with the Backhand Blades. There are three Backhand Blades available in Shadow of the Erdtree, and they all favor Dexterity scaling:

Light Greatswords

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

In the game “Shadow of the Erdtree,” Light Greatswords are a distinctive weapon type, offering swift strikes that inflict decent damage without compromising speed. You can acquire three Light Greatswords through the DLC, and fortunately, two of these weapons are optimally scaled for both Strength and Dexterity attributes.

The Light Greatswords boast distinctive attack movements that give each sword stroke a polished and graceful appearance. These greatswords set themselves apart from other weapons in the game through their capacity to seamlessly blend light and heavy attacks, allowing for continuous offensive pressure during battles.

Hand-To-Hand Arts

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion not only offers an array of unusual weapons but also introduces a Hand-to-Hand weapon class focusing on martial arts. This class comprises two choices: Dryleaf Arts and Dane’s Footwork. With Dryleaf Arts, you can deliver powerful punches and kicks to your adversaries. In contrast, Dane’s Footwork relies more on strong kicks than punches.

The Hand-to-Hand weapon category grows more effective with higher Dexterity and is ideal for lighter character structures. Although it restricts the selection of Ashes of War abilities, it compensates with an extensive array of elemental properties. For example, you can create a lethal bleeding Hand-to-Hand build to defeat your adversaries.

Here are the available Hand-to-Hand weapons you can enjoy in Shadow of the Erdtree:

Perfume Bottles

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

In “Shadow of the Erdtree,” the Perfume Bottles function differently than in the original game. Instead of being consumed, these new Perfume Bottles work as weapons. You won’t need to craft them, and they offer an endless supply for use.

These distinctive weapons bring a new rhythm to combat, specializing in inflicting elemental harm on adversaries. Pair of Perfume Bottles become particularly effective when managing large groups. Within this weapon category, there are five distinct bottles to discover, all of which grow more potent with your Dexterity level.

Beast Claws

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

In simpler terms, Beast Claws function much like regular Claw weapons, yet they’re better suited for players who prefer an aggressive gameplay approach. The expansion “Shadow of the Erdtree” introduces two new Beast Claw weapons, which boast distinctive attack moves and excel in inflicting bleed damage.

Beast Claws also include the feint ability that changes attack animation when you execute a heavy attack while backstepping. Out of the two Beast Claws, only one of them ( ) allows for Ash of War infusion and affinity buffs. Beast Claws primarily scale with Dexterity and here are their stats:

Thursting Shields

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

If you prefer a more protective playstyle in battles, Thrusting Shields are an excellent choice for tackling formidable bosses with assurance. Different from regular shields, Thrusting Shields come equipped with sharp tips at the top and bottom, enabling you to inflict piercing damage upon your enemies.

Thrusting Shields have the ability to be upgraded with different Ashes of War, increasing their battle effectiveness. Because Thrusting Shields are more lightweight than Greatshields, they make great options for medium-rolled character builds. In “Shadow of the Erdtree,” you can locate two Thrusting Shields, and here is a look at their specifications:

Great Katanas

Elden Ring: All New Weapon Types In Shadow Of The Erdtree

In the captivating game “Shadow of the Erdtree,” enormous katanas are an exciting addition as new weapon types. The blades on these katanas are generously sized, offering a nice balance between inflicting harm and agility. Great Katanas prove particularly effective when brandished with two hands due to their strength scaling property.

In the DLC, there are three mighty Katanas to discover, each distinct. Yet, merely one of them can be modified with new combat abilities via Ashes of War. Keep in mind that Great Katanas involve a deliberate pacing in attacks due to their lengthy recovery time. Consequently, strategic positioning and precise timing are crucial when employing this weapon.
