Elden Ring: How To Get The Jar Cannon

Elden Ring: How To Get The Jar Cannon

As a seasoned adventurer who’s spent countless nights in the cold embrace of Elden Ring’s world, I can tell you that the Volcano Cave, nestled in the heart of Mt. Gelmir, is not for the faint-hearted. The cave itself might be small, but it packs a punch with its dark corridors and pesky Demi-Humans lurking around every corner.

In the game Elden Ring, there are numerous weapons to discover, and among them, you’ll find some that stand out as peculiar. For instance, consider the Jar Cannon – this massive mortar-like weapon has an extraordinary ability: it hurls large projectiles at opponents. While its speed may not be impressive, its raw power certainly compensates. Beyond its practical uses, the Jar Cannon is simply delightful to wield. However, obtaining this unique Ballista can pose a challenge for some gamers.

In Elden Ring, where can players find the Jar Cannon and what challenges will they encounter to obtain it? While it can technically be obtained relatively early, it’s guarded by a formidable boss (particularly tough for newcomers). Here’s how enthusiasts of Elden Ring can acquire the Jar Cannon and start creating massive cannonball-sized openings in their enemies.

Where To Find The Jar Cannon

Found in the Volcano Cave

Those aiming to secure the for personal use must embark on a challenging journey to the Volcano Cave, situated north of Mt. Gelmir. This destination lies beyond even the Atlas Plateau and can be reached by two primary methods. One path involves traversing the Atlas Plateau directly, which is lengthy due to the need to navigate through fragments of the map and utilize the Grand Lift of Dectus in Liurnia of the Lakes first. Alternatively, adventurers may opt for the Ruin-Strewn Precipice Route to bypass the Grand Lift of Dectus entirely. Both paths lead to the prize at the Volcano Cave’s end – conquering the boss that resides there.

Alternate Path To Volcano Manor

Players must reach a unique spot within Raya Lucaria, where they’ll purposefully meet their demise at the hands of a Virgin Abductor. To get there, players starting from the Church of the Cuckoo Site of Grace should exit through the end door of the corridor and venture into Raya Lucaria’s graveyard. Following this straight path will eventually lead them to a colossal elevator-like structure. By jumping onto one of the moving stone platforms within this contraption and successfully navigating it from top to bottom, players will find themselves in a vast open area brimming with crystals.

There is a Virgin Abductor lying in wait in this area and allowing it to grab players and pull them into its Iron Maiden (and kill them successfully) will cause players to respawn in the basement of Volcano Manor. It’s possible to make way through the manor and exit into Mt. Gelmir from this area, but players should be aware that they’ll have to tangle with two pretty powerful bosses. A twin set of Virgin Abductors (one with wheeled blades and one with guillotine-style) block progression from the basement back into the rest of the Manor.

Following their journey to Mt. Gelmir, players should travel northward and discover the Volcano Cave nestled close to the mountain peak. This hidden location is tucked into the mountainside near a precarious cliff edge and is inhabited by Demi-Humans. Upon entering the Volcano Cave, they’ll encounter a Site of Grace to activate and dark passages to explore.

As a gamer venturing through this game, I found that it’s best to carry a light source like a torch or my lantern as I navigate the cave. Fortunately, this cave isn’t too large and it’s quite straightforward – just take the first left and follow the path leading to the Fog Gate, where the boss room is located. If you fancy thinning out the Demi-Humans along the way for extra loot or challenge, feel free to do so. Alternatively, you can make a beeline for the boss room and engage Demi-Human Queen Margot immediately. Defeat her, and she’ll drop the coveted Jar Cannon as her final reward.

The Jar Cannon is a massive, and heavy, ballista-type ranged weapon that shoots Greatbolts at enemies. Players can blast massive damage into foes from a considerable range but it’s important to note that the Jar Cannon takes quite a while to reload. It’s not recommended that players try to engage enemies or bosses that are particularly fast with this weapon as it can be difficult to land shots on them consecutively. Those that can correctly balance the immense weight of the Jar Cannon and its slow reload speed will find one of the best-ranged weapons in the game in terms of damage output.

As a gamer, I recently delved into the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and stumbled upon an intriguing alternative to the Jar Cannon – Rabbath’s Cannon. While it may not pack as much punch (on average) as its counterpart, the lighter weight and generously homing projectiles make it perfect for keeping a safe distance and picking off big enemies or bosses from afar.
