Elden Ring Movie: 5 Dream Castings That Could Actually Do Miyazaki’s World Justice

Could it be true that there are whispers of a movie adaptation for “Elden Ring,” produced by A24 and directed by Alex Garland? The initial news has been retracted, but what does this imply? Is it possible that Hidetaka Miyazaki’s masterpiece and the Game of the Year are on their way to the silver screen?

If these rumors are true, we’re likely to have a new Elden Ring movie coming our way. The main question then arises: who will make up the cast of this film? The answer to that would depend on the storylines and characters that are going to be featured. I already have my preferred actors in mind for these roles.

Here are my picks for the cast of the Elden Ring movie

Idris Elba as Blaidd, the Half-Wolf

Blaidd, one of Elden Ring’s most sorrowful and cherished figures, is a devoted servant of Ranni the Witch. Tied to her by design and ultimately doomed due to that same loyalty, I am seeking an actor who can convey both the immense strength and devastating heartache he experiences in his connection with Ranni, leading to his descent into madness.

An ‘ELDEN RING’ movie is reportedly in the works at A24 with Alex Garland set to direct.

In my opinion, Idris Elba seems well-suited for the role due to his powerful on-screen presence and versatile acting abilities. His deep, authoritative voice and precise delivery make him an ideal choice for embodying Blaidd’s complex personality – both calm and wild at the same time. Moreover, he has experience with fantasy genres, which would be beneficial in portraying a character whose destiny is closely tied to another’s, even if it leads to his own downfall.

Morgan Freeman as Miriel, Pastor of Vows

Absolutely, Miriel is a colossal, chatty turtle (or a wise canine, hint, hint) donning a mitre. Yet, amidst the game’s chaos, he stands as one of the most tranquil and soothing characters. And I dare say, there’s no voice more fitting for this role than Morgan Freeman’s. His renowned calm narration and spiritual presence would resonate flawlessly with Miriel’s character.

Sean Bean as Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing

Sean Bean has a wealth of experience in epic fantasies, making him exceptionally skilled at depicting Gideon Ofnir’s tormented ambition. The character’s relentless pursuit of knowledge and eventual betrayal are filled with overconfidence and ethical uncertainty. It’s also worth noting that Sean Bean is familiar with such complex roles, having played Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and Ned Stark in Game of Thrones.

Sean Bean has been in a lot of fantasy movies, and he’s really good at showing how Gideon Ofnir feels when he’s trying to get knowledge but also doing something bad. He understands these kinds of roles well because he played Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and Ned Stark in Game of Thrones.

Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Ranni the Witch

In certain instances, the ideal choice for a role might have already been found. For example, Aimee-Ffion Edwards lends her voice to Ranni in the game, and it seems unfair to replace her given that she is more than capable of embodying the character on screen. Ranni plays a pivotal role in Elden Ring’s most resolved questline and enjoys a significant following among fans, with her backstory boasting one of the richest layers within the game. A replacement could hardly capture the authenticity she has already brought to the character.

Anthony Carrigan as Patches

Every Soulsborne enthusiast is familiar with Patches, a cunning and untrustworthy bald character who often sets players up for ambushes before sheepishly apologizing when exposed. Despite his deceitful antics, Patches serves as both comical relief and an odd source of comfort in the ominous and bizarre realms created by FromSoft.

Actor Anthony Carrigan, famously known for his roles in “Barry” and “Gotham”, has built a successful career by portraying quirky, ethically complex characters that leave an indelible mark on every scene they inhabit. However, there’s more to my interest than just his acting prowess. He bears an uncanny resemblance to Patches, a character I have in mind. If ever there was an actor who could embody the look and qualities required for this specific role, it would be Carrigan without a doubt.

It’s unclear if the recent speculation about an Elden Ring movie is accurate or not, but if it is, the potential cast for such a film promises some thrilling prospects. Back in 2024, game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed his openness to an adaptation under the right circumstances. If this rumor proves true, then the timing would certainly seem ideal.
