Since Elden Ring Nightreign hit the scene, it’s clear that FromSoftware has triumphantly entered the roguelike genre. Adventuring together with fellow travelers, or even friends, as you traverse Limveld and battle its countless dangers is an exhilarating experience.
Nevertheless, this doesn’t exclude the possibility of further enhancements. In essence, Nightreign serves as a heartfelt homage to FromSoftware enthusiasts, incorporating various elements that echo its past creations. The Duchess’ fighting style mirrors Lady Maria from Bloodborne in an uncanny way, while the Executor might as well be Sekiro adorned with a stylish armor for a disguise.
In addition, it’s noteworthy that we encountered numerous bosses from the Dark Souls series serving as challenges prior to battling the final boss in our various adventures through Limveld. Engaging with the Centipede Demon using Elden Ring’s arsenal was quite enjoyable, indeed.
Instead of directly referencing the missing element in Nightreign’s callbacks, let me rephrase it by saying: While Nightreign’s tributes to its inspirations are noticeable, there seems to be a conspicuous absence of distinctive weaponry. With an abundance of weapons available across the Dark Souls series and other FromSoftware titles, incorporating these weapons into Elden Ring Nightreign’s random loot system would significantly enhance the gameplay experience. Below, you’ll find our preferred list of weapons we’d love to acquire and wield in Elden Ring Nightreign.
10. Black Knight Halberd – Dark Souls 2
In the series of Dark Souls games, Dark Souls 2 may not always receive the recognition it deserves, but it remains a strong contender and boasts a devoted fanbase. For players seeking the Black Knight’s Halberd in Dark Souls 2, its location can vary in difficulty, depending on where you search for it. However, adventurers in Limhaven should find it relatively straightforward to locate this item while traversing the wilderness of Limhaven.
The combination of its robustness and agility scaling, alongside its distinct combat style which underwent adjustments in Dark Souls 3, makes it an ideal weapon for players who enjoy the Guardian’s knack for absorbing damage with a mighty shield. Furthermore, its capacity to outperform other Black Knight weapons in raw damage could make it a valuable asset in the armory of the Nightfarers.
9. Red Iron Twinblade – Dark Souls 2
In the game “Dark Souls 2,” the Red Iron Twinblade stood out from similar weapons due to its unique scaling with Strength rather than Dexterity, resulting in a distinct moveset. The two-handed light attacks are ideal for managing crowds but have a learning curve attached, while the one-handed heavy attack is a potent thrust that can be extremely beneficial for an experienced player.
Furthermore, this weapon stands out due to its substantial impact damage, making it an ideal match for the Wylder’s versatile role. Given his multi-talented nature, he can surely capitalize on the weapon’s sheer strength and unique abilities. Pairing it with his character skills will undoubtedly keep formidable NightLords off-balance, if not left immobilized on the battlefield – much like a Dark Souls 2 player would experience when wielding it.
8. Smough’s Hammer – Dark Souls
Although it was exciting to witness the Nameless King return on his dragon, there’s a nostalgic longing for the opportunity to face off against Ornstein and Smough – two formidable foes from the series’ early days. Just imagining Ornstein’s lethal strikes and swift attacks that demanded quick reflexes, combined with Smough’s wild hammer swings, sends chills down our spine.
Smough’s Hammer is an excellent choice for Nightfarers who enjoy expressing themselves through massive weapons, making it a fantastic pick for anyone role-playing as the Raider. Its damage is so potent that it can rival Radahn’s Greatswords, and its heavy attacks have a knockdown effect, meaning it could conclude battles just as swiftly as the Raider initiates them.
7. Lifehunt Scythe – Dark Souls
This tool harmoniously combines power and agility, offering a distinct set of moves and an exceptional mechanism. It inflicts damage on its user equal to that of its targets, necessitating strategy and finesse for efficient combat usage. Although this mechanism often deterred players from using it in the game ‘Dark Souls’, there’s a strong argument for incorporating it into ‘Nightreign’.
Initially, there are artifacts and abilities granted by bosses that restore health over time during sustained attacks or upon scoring a critical hit. Accumulating these effects, along with those that slightly increase HP when defeating enemies, can significantly boost your overall health. This could make the Lifehunt Scythe incredibly powerful in the hands of a Nightfarer who favors strategic combat.
As a gamer, I can attest that this weapon could prove invaluable for the Duchess, the Executor, and Wylder. In the hands of the Executor, it becomes a formidable force when combined with his cursed blade and Ultimate Art. This deadly combo lets him deflect enemy attacks with an air of contempt while effortlessly dismantling any poor souls unlucky enough to stand in his path to victory.
6. Frayed Blade – Dark Souls 3
In the world of Dark Souls 3, the Frayed Blade’s durability may be a subject of jest among players, but its raw damage capabilities should not be underestimated. For a character who is adept at leveraging its moveset and weapon art, this sword becomes a formidable weapon, packing quite the punch akin to the boss whose soul it was crafted from in the Ringed City.
In the possession of either the Duchess or the Executor, the Frayed Blade could prove to be a formidable weapon, empowering players to effortlessly obliterate both common enemies on the battlefield as well as intimidating bosses. A brilliant strategy for it to fall from a Dragon boss would create a chilling anticipation among Nightreign’s players, causing them to tremble at the prospect of facing Darkeater Midir and his oppressive rule in The Ringed City.
We’re eager to take on Midir once more, this time with the support of two fellow Nightfarers, should FromSoft consider it.
5. Court Sorcerer’s Staff – Dark Souls 3
In Nightreign, choices for magic users are somewhat limited, as only a few staves and seals are available, each with different spells attached. However, FromSoft could enhance this situation by introducing the Court Sorcerer’s Staff. This staff scales highly with intelligence, making it ideal for wielding Glintblade sorceries. Additionally, other forms of magic receive a notable enhancement from this staff as well.
This item is an excellent selection for The Revenant, and if needed, The Duchess could also benefit from it when needing to create space from her adversaries. For Nightfarers who favor ranged combat and like to bombard enemies, this weapon stands out as the superior option.
4. Onikiri and Ubadachi – Dark Souls 3
In this updated iteration of the Rakuyo (from Bloodborne), you’ll find an intriguing blend of sword and dagger, reminiscent of the Wakizashi in Elden Ring, enabling power-stanced attacks when paired with another katana. It strikes with astonishing swiftness, while its special skill enables players to traverse considerable distances as they charge towards their target, aiming directly for their vulnerable spots.
As a gamer, I’ve found that the Dexterity-based weapon is an excellent pick for characters like Duchess or Ironeye. It lets them dance around battles, dishing out bursts of damage and building up Bleed efficiently. Limveld won’t stand a chance if you know how to use this lethal combo skillfully and accurately.
Just keep an eye on your stamina bar as these powerhouses are quite hungry in that regard.
3. Star-Lined Sword – Shadow of the Erdtree
In the game “Shadow of the Erdtree,” the semi-human sword-fighter entered unexpectedly, brandishing the spiritual successor to Moonveil. Unlike the Moonveil, which required a high Intelligence stat to utilize its unique abilities, the Star-Lined Sword functions effectively with Dexterity for its regular attacks. Its special attack makes it a viable option comparable to Rivers of Blood.
In the game “Nightreign,” this katana is renowned for its impressive attack sequence reminiscent of Malenia’s moves. It’s a sword that should definitely be part of your arsenal. Fortunately, it’s already included in the game, with the demi-human swordsman wielding it expertly against the Nightfarers. For the Duchess, this weapon could make the NightLords think twice before confronting her when used skillfully.
2. Dancer’s Curved Swords – Dark Souls 3
On the second day of some adventures in Nightreign, numerous players might have been exhilarated to witness the Boreal Valley Dancer make her ominous entrance onto the battlefield. This boss was a formidable challenge even in Dark Souls 3, and she remains just as dangerous now, despite being confronted by three Nightfarers.
Instead of only causing fire and dark damage with her initial attacks, the Nightfarers’ abilities might be adjusted to inflict an additional random status effect along with fire damage. This can prove particularly useful against common enemies and specific Nightlords. Combining it with other status effects within the game could make it a potent weapon against most threats in the game.
Additionally, these paired blades are particularly useful due to their lightness and adjustable size, making them ideal for any of the Nightfarers, with the Duchess, Executor, and Ironeye being preferred choices for handling them. However, it’s worth noting that characters such as the Wylder or Raider can also take advantage of their swift strikes and flexible combat style, thus enhancing their potential in the random encounter system (RNG pool) in FromSoft’s recent release.
1. Rakshasa’s Great Katana – Shadow of the Erdtree
In simpler terms, this exceptionally powerful Great Katana, more accurately known as odachi, is one of the most destructive enhancements in the game ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’. It’s quite surprising that it hasn’t been included in ‘Nightreign’, given its excellent counterpart to the Rivers of Blood katana.
In Elden Ring’s DLC, this weapon stands out by blending its distinctive special attack with an innovative twist, all while preserving the measured and impactful moveset typical of Great Katanas. This makes it a top choice for Nightfarers seeking to inflict massive damage, apply Bleed effectively, and excel at managing crowds. The added benefit is that as long as you have enough stamina, you can continue wielding this weapon with relentless vigor.
In a potential scenario, both the Executor and Raider might find great utility in this remarkable weapon due to its devastating power. Meanwhile, the Guardian, boasting immense stamina reserves, could equally handle it with lethal precision. This weapon offers an ideal blend of raw strength, swiftness, and elegance, making it a strong candidate for inclusion in Nightreign, especially given that FromSoftware has opted to introduce tougher iterations of the NightLords for players to conquer.
In Elden Ring Nightreign, while these weapons are our preferred choices for potential inclusions, there are numerous other fan favorites that could potentially be incorporated if FromSoftware decides to adapt versions of their previous successful titles into this fast-paced gameplay environment they’ve developed. We’d be thrilled to learn about the weapons you hope will be added to the game.
Until then, the night invites us, and since we’re dedicated guardians who aim to keep Limveld shining, we need to respond.
