Elden Ring Nightreign Considering Allowing Just Two Players

Nightreign won’t start off supporting only a two-player mode. But, rest assured, multiplayer isn’t entirely ruled out as a possibility in the future.

As a gamer, I recently got some exciting news straight from Game Director Junya Ishizaki during an interview with Ungeek. When asked about players who prefer gaming with just one buddy, he confirmed that technically, we’ll be able to do that right off the bat when the game launches. But here’s the twist – it won’t follow the conventional approach we’re used to.

In this game setup, players have the option to join with only one other player. However, for a team of three to be formed, a third random player will also be added to the group. So, while you can play with just one friend, it won’t be a two-player match as some might expect. Instead, it will involve a trio.

To that point, Ishizaki says that the team is thinking about it for a future update.

He mentioned that while we’re contemplating a setup with only two players (as opposed to three or a single player), it isn’t an option available in the game right now.

At The Game Awards 2024, it was announced that Elden Ring Nightreign is an independent offshoot game, taking place within the universe of Elden Ring. In this game, players will explore a scaled-down map modeled after the region of Limgrave, encountering enemies that are unique to each playthrough due to their randomized placement.

The game launches on May 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
