Days before the launch of Elden Ring: Nightreign, director Junya Ishizaki has shared that he’s been eager to work on a game like this ever since Dark Souls 3. In a conversation with GamesRadar, Ishizaki opened up about his initial plans for a Dark Souls title centered around multiplayer, particularly during the creation of Dark Souls 3. However, these were merely scattered ideas and notions that didn’t fully materialize at the time.
Ishizaki remarked, “That was quite some time back. I had a faint memory of a game concept that I’d wanted to create while working there. It seems like, during the period when Dark Souls 3 was being developed, my thoughts and ideas were scattered and incomplete.
According to Ishizaki’s account, it was only when he saw Elden Ring during its final stages of production that all the scattered thoughts and ideas coalesced in his mind. He found the expansive world of Elden Ring particularly striking, as well as the game’s diverse array of weapons and enemies.
Ishizaki explained, “It wasn’t until the development of Elden Ring was fully underway that my concepts solidified and became clearer in my thoughts.” As I observed the vastness of Elden Ring’s world, the diverse range of enemies, weapons, and player builds, it sparked a sense of opportunity to explore and grow these ideas even further. So, that’s essentially how this game came into being.
As a passionate fan, I can share that during the early stages of Elden Ring: Nightreign, Ishizaki initially didn’t envision himself in the director’s seat. Instead, it was Hidetaka Miyazaki, the renowned president of FromSoftware and mastermind behind projects like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, who encouraged me to step up and lead this incredible project. Working on Nightreign, under Miyazaki’s guidance, has instilled in me the self-assurance that I can confidently take on the director’s role in future endeavors as well.
He mentions his eagerness to explore directing another production in the future, stating, ‘For Nightreign, Elden Ring served as a significant foundation for this endeavor. Consequently, I’m keen on attempting a fresh direction in the future.’
Ishizaki has expressed his eagerness for the approaching debut of “Elden Ring: Nightreign”, admitting to a touch of apprehension yet remaining self-assured. Moreover, he mentioned that despite the game’s release, work at the studio continues unabated. Their focus now lies in ensuring the game’s balance is perfectly tuned.
Ishizaki mentioned, “We work tirelessly right up until the last moment, making adjustments to ensure every session is optimized. Our goal is to make players feel content and comfortable during each session, so we’re constantly refining things to achieve that perfect balance until the very end.
The game titled “Elden Ring: Nightreign” is set to arrive for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 30. For a comprehensive look at the playable characters in “Elden Ring: Nightreign“, be sure to check out our thorough breakdown.
