I’m so hyped! It looks like the buzz around Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t dying down, and FromSoftware just dropped some details about the expansion they’ve been teasing for 2025. It’s called The Forsaken Hollows, and it’s going to add new characters we can play as, plus some seriously tough new bosses. The best part? It’s coming out before the end of this year!
The release date for The Forsaken Hollows was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play event for Japan. The game will be available on December 4th for $14.99 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While FromSoftware didn’t share a lot of information, they did post a few extra details on their website and the PlayStation Blog.
The game now features two new characters you can play as: the Scholar and the Undertaker. The Scholar focuses on magical abilities and excels at gaining an edge by carefully studying the battlefield – though how this works isn’t detailed. The Undertaker is a powerful character who combines strength and faith to quickly defeat opponents.
The upcoming expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, will introduce two new bosses and powerful enemies known as Abominations. Although details are scarce, the trailer showed glimpses of Knight Artorias, a boss character from the original Dark Souls. Players can also expect a new area called the Shifting Earth, which extends far below Limveld and is rich with crystals. FromSoftware hasn’t revealed much about this new area just yet.
Elden Ring Nightreign‘s The Forsaken Hollows Trailer Has Plenty of Gameplay
The new gameplay trailer revealed details that weren’t included in FromSoftware’s official announcements. It showcased the two new playable characters and offered brief looks at the game’s new environment.
Everyone expected an announcement about downloadable content for Nightreign soon, and it’s now official. FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa Corporation, recently revealed in a financial report that the Nightreign DLC will be released before the end of March 2026.
Players have long anticipated an expansion for Nightreign, so the announcement of The Forsaken Hollows wasn’t unexpected. The Deluxe Edition mentioned the downloadable content would be released by the fourth quarter of 2025, but few other specifics were available.
So, if you grabbed the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition, awesome news! You’re getting ‘The Forsaken Hollows’ for free. FromSoftware did change things up though – the upgrade pack for the Deluxe Edition is now just the ‘Forsaken Hollows’ page on the store. They’re warning us to be careful not to accidentally buy it twice, because it looks like a new purchase but it’s actually the same content we already get with those editions. Basically, don’t let the new store page trick you!
Since its release in May, Nightreign has received a lot of updates and improvements, including a more challenging difficulty level, boss changes, duo expeditions, and consistent new content. However, it’s currently unknown how much support Nightreign will continue to receive after the release of The Forsaken Hollows.
