I’m hesitant to even say what many people will likely call Scholar, the first of two new characters coming to Elden Ring with the Forsaken Hollows DLC – I won’t risk it! But I predict a lot of players will refer to him by a nickname based on his appearance. He looks a little dirty, but he’s clearly intelligent – he’s a scholar who reads! There’s a lot of depth to his character.
Putting mistakes aside, let’s focus on what this character actually does. The game’s official description says he’s very powerful magically and can gain significant benefits by studying enemies during battle. It’s not entirely clear how this works in practice, but there’s a scene where he scans a group of troublesome enemies, and they become noticeably easier to defeat afterward.
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN The Forsaken Hollows | Scholar Character Trailer
During a boss battle with copies of the player characters, the boss casts a spell that connects everyone – both the players and the clones. This means if you defeat one clone, the remaining two are instantly destroyed. It seems likely that if one player falls, the others will too. The boss also wields a sword and fights with a fencing style, but it doesn’t appear to have any special properties beyond that.
The DLC will introduce two new playable classes: the Forsaken Hollows and the Undertaker. We haven’t seen gameplay of the Undertaker yet, but more details are coming soon. Along with the new classes, players can expect two additional bosses, changes to the game’s environments, and a currently unknown feature. The DLC is scheduled to release on December 4th.
