In Elden Ring’s Nightreign, The Terrifying Gaping Dragon serves as a fearsome Night Boss. Contrary to its menacing appearance, it is surprisingly manageable in combat. Originating from Dark Souls, this six-legged monster may make an appearance on the First Night, if you’re engaged in either the Augur or Gaping Maw questlines. This article delves into its attack routines and vulnerabilities to ensure your battles against The Gaping Dragon become less daunting.
Overview of the Gaping Dragon in Elden Ring Nightreign
The colossal Gaping Dragon serves as a formidable adversary, boasting an extended physique that makes it a vulnerable target for both melee and ranged combatants known as Nightfarers. Regardless of the class combination, this boss can be defeated effortlessly by any player, regardless of their level. The dragon is generally perceived as an easy opponent due to its clearly announced attacks and safe zones positioned on either side near the hind legs. Most attacks from this beast are directed forward, with the exception of a sweeping tail swipe aimed at players lurking behind it in a broad arc.
Weaknesses of the Gaping Dragon
The key vulnerabilities of the Sluggish Sauron lie in its sluggish pace and susceptibility on both sides. This slow beast can take considerable harm from bleeds, frosts, and lightning strikes. As a close-combat fighter, positioning oneself near the dragon’s hind legs will minimize most of its assaults. It’s advantageous to frequently strike the tail to sever it for extra rewards. When the Sluggish Sauron becomes staggered, its small head drops to the ground. Attacking this vulnerable spot inflicts heavy damage on the boss.
Tips To Easily Defeat the Gaping Dragon
- The grab attack is the main move to watch out for. The dragon will rear its maw, pull back one side of its body, and lash out with the middle arm. If caught, it will chew on the player, likely killing them. The easiest way to avoid the attack is to sprint away from its sides when the dragon rears its head and move toward the tail.
- The Gaping Dragon has a large AoE acid attack, which it telegraphs by starting to belch violently, with acid appearing around its jaws. It then pours the acid into a large pool in front of it. Sprint away from the dragon when it begins to telegraph this attack.
- The boss can leap into the air and land with a crushing ground attack. Dodge away from its projected landing area.
- The tail swipe attack is telegraphed by the dragon moving the tail to the side and charging up the attack. There is a half-second delay before the tail swipe is launched.
