In simpler terms, Elden Ring Nightreign has recently added a feature for teaming up with another player in duos, and it seems that a new, enigmatic multiplayer mode might be on the horizon for developer From Software’s project – this could potentially be a competitive, ranked mode.
Reddit dataminers, as reported by PC Gamer, have delved into the files of the recent Nightreign update and uncovered what seems to be a future addition to the game: a mode named Deep of Night. This mode appears to function as a ranked system where triumph can enhance a player’s standing, thereby granting access to progressively more difficult Depths.

A successful outcome will enhance your standing, polishing your reputation, as suggested by the data mine. The vast expanse of darkness continues endlessly.
From the analyzed screenshots, it seems there are five levels, or Depths, for players to attain. A skill-oriented matchmaking mechanism is in place to pair players with similar abilities. As you advance through these Depths, they become increasingly challenging. It appears that when a player fails at a run, their rating may decrease; however, it seems like such losses won’t cause players to revert back to an earlier Depth.
As a player who’s always striving to improve, I’ve learned that consistently dropping my rank will lead to a decrease in my depth, but once I reach Depth 2, I won’t be able to revert back to Depth 1. This is according to the information gathered from the mode description.
In the realm of gameplay enhancements, Deep of Night is expected to introduce a variety of enemy forms infused with magma for players to face off against. These enemies will not only have beneficial effects but also detrimental ones associated with them. Additionally, weapons found within this mode will come equipped with both positive and negative attributes. Furthermore, players may acquire an extra three relic slots for equipping Depth Relics, which are exclusive to the Deep of Night game mode.
Deep of Night mode for Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t yet specified as to when it might be introduced, and it’s important to remember that the information above is tentative and could change since From Software hasn’t officially confirmed the addition. However, if the rumors are true, this mode could potentially offer an enticing twist for Elden Ring Nightreign’s endgame. Players will just have to be patient to get official updates on the matter.
Among the ongoing projects of developer FromSoftware, Elden Ring Nightreign is merely one example. Earlier this year, it was disclosed they are working on a multiplayer-focused RPG titled The Duskbloods, which is exclusive to the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. A recent update suggests that FromSoftware is also deep into development of another unnamed game scheduled for release in 2026.
Despite concentrating on multiplayer games at present, From Software’s head, Hidetaka Miyazaki, assures us they won’t neglect single-player games. Instead, they plan to create games that uphold their classic, more traditional style.
