The current player base for Elden Ring Nightreign accounts for just 17.81% of its initial peak in May. Despite FromSoftware’s reputation for creating exceptional games that typically incorporate multiplayer aspects, these are usually centered around single-player experiences. However, Elden Ring Nightreign buckes this trend. Although it can be enjoyed individually, the game is fundamentally designed as a cooperative adventure for three players. They traverse an alternate version of the Lands Between, encountering numerous challenging bosses together along the way.
As a dedicated gamer, I dived into Elden Ring Nightreign, priced affordably at $39.99. However, compared to the immense player base that the original Elden Ring attracted, Nightreign is currently falling short, with a peak concurrent player count of 313,593. In contrast, the original game peaked at an astounding 953,426 players. Given that Nightreign is a multiplayer-focused spin-off rather than a full sequel, it’s reasonable to expect a difference in interest levels when compared to the revolutionary original.
It’s surprising to note that the number of players for Elden Ring Nightreign on Steam has plummeted by around 82% within just two months. As per SteamDB, the peak concurrent player count for Elden Ring Nightreign in the last 24 hours stands at 55,862. In contrast, the original Elden Ring boasts a 24-hour peak player count of 52,589. While the original Elden Ring has sold much more copies, it’s been around for three years, whereas Nightreign is merely two months old. Given that Nightreign emphasizes multiplayer, its rapid decline in players might raise concerns, but in reality, its numbers remain robust compared to many other games.
Elden Ring Nightreign Steam Player Count Now Compared to Its Peak
- 55,862 (Now) vs. 313,593 (Peak)
Remember that Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t a game that relies on continuous online play or a large active player base like some other titles. Instead, it can be enjoyed solo, which means its success doesn’t hinge solely on the number of players at any given time. While it would certainly benefit FromSoftware and Bandai Namco if Elden Ring Nightreign didn’t lose 82% of its initial playerbase, it won’t be catastrophic for the game. In fact, future updates are expected to attract back those who may have taken a break from playing, and a significant one is coming soon.
On July 30th, it has been confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will introduce a two-player mode. At present, Elden Ring Nightreign can only be played alone or with teams of three. The new Duo Expeditions allow for two-player gameplay without the involvement of random players, potentially enticing both returning and first-time players. Future updates to the game are also planned, but it remains to be seen if they will significantly increase Elden Ring Nightreign’s player base or if its popularity will continue to decline.
