After the highly anticipated release of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, some players have brought up an issue with the game’s incomplete translation credits. Although specific team members were given credit by name, many others were overlooked. Their recognition was limited to the mentioning of their employers or agencies in the “special thanks” section of the credits.

Elden Ring Publisher Apologizes For Incomplete Translation Credits

The acknowledgment of the issue with the incomplete credits in Elden Ring has been made by Bandai Namco’s official Twitter account for the game. Although they haven’t provided details about what caused the oversight, they have apologized and promised a resolution in an upcoming update. The update is planned to release “as soon as possible.” They also expressed their appreciation for all those involved in creating Elden Ring.

In the current version of the game’s credits, last updated following the June 21 release of “Shadow of the Erdtree,” no translators or localization teams from Soulsborne’s Latin American division are specifically named. Similarly, those responsible for localizing “Elden Ring” into Thai have not been individually recognized. However, all 11 other localization crews received extensive credit. This oversight is not exclusive to “Elden Ring,” as lack of proper recognition for translators and localizers is a common issue in big-budget games.

I’ve noticed that sometimes translation agencies fall short by not including a complete roster of employees and contractors involved in a project, like Elden Ring. However, it’s important to remember that this might not have been the case for Elden Ring. Some publishers choose to keep certain information under wraps, such as localizers. A notable example is Nintendo, who has been criticized for this practice in an exposé that alleged systemic miscrediting of external translators. As a fan, I believe it’s essential for transparency in the industry to ensure proper recognition and respect for all contributors involved in bringing our beloved games to life.

From a fan’s perspective, I deeply understand the importance of acknowledging every contributor in a project, not just for ego reasons but also for professional growth. Neglecting to give proper credit can hinder the careers of experts left out.
