We’ve all experienced similar situations. George R.R. Martin has been working on “The Winds of Winter” for thirteen years now, but it remains unfinished, causing quite a stir among fans. However, here’s something exciting to look forward to: isn’t Elden Ring looking promising?
The creator behind Elden Ring, in collaboration with Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware, is basking in adoration and acclaim for his gamework, whereas the authors of A Song of Ice and Fire Saga seem to be overlooked, receiving little recognition.
George R.R. Martin is all in for the Elden Ring movie
In 2022, Elden Ring carried on FromSoftware’s tradition of challenging players and sometimes their gaming equipment with its release. Fast forward two years, gamers were treated to the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, and in 2025, Nightreign followed suit.

In case you’re unaware, it has been revealed that A24 Studios is planning to transform a video game into a film, with Alex Garland set to oversee the production.
Given that George R.R. Martin played a significant role in shaping the lore surrounding Elden Ring, it’s no surprise that he often shares thoughts on the potential movie adaptation from his widely read blog, Not a Blog.
In today’s update, we’re talking about the recently announced ELDER RING movie. Known for their exceptional work, A24 is the production studio behind this project. And let me tell you, Alex Garland is an outstanding director who will be helming this film.
The writer included a three-minute YouTube video, detailing reasons why the Elden Ring movie adaptation will not be disappointing, and expressed a hopeful sentiment on his blog.
Contrarily, A24 typically produces films that are rich in metaphor and can sometimes be challenging to grasp. On the other hand, Elden Ring’s appeal lies in its open-world gameplay and tough yet gratifying combat system that players adore. Yet, when it comes to a movie, the situation is distinctly different.
It’s great news for video game enthusiasts worldwide, as they finally have something to look forward to – a movie adaptation of their beloved game. However, fans of George R.R. Martin’s books are still left in anticipation, continuing to wait and hope.
George R.R. Martin will never finish The Winds of Winter
Regrettably, esteemed writer George R.R. Martin has courageously admitted that he may not complete ‘The Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’, his highly anticipated books in the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ series.

Initially, it appeared as though the piece was just a standard article on a particular adaptation. However, it escalated into a passionate rant by Martin when he vented his frustration toward his fans, asserting that they are preoccupied solely with The Winds of Winter, disregarding other aspects.
If I manage to complete Winds, there’s no chance I’ll finish A Dream of Spring as well, and even if I did, the quality wouldn’t be great. However, given my advanced age, I won’t live long enough to see its completion, anyway.
He continued,
For many years now, I’ve abandoned any enthusiasm for “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Writing no longer holds my interest; instead, I find myself leisurely enjoying my wealth. I understand that you couldn’t care less about these matters, as your focus remains solely on “The Winds of Winter.” You’ve made it clear to me countless times.
Indeed, it’s not surprising that this outburst occurred as George R.R. Martin has been dealing with a great deal of pressure due to the success of the HBO show, managing spin-offs, completing his own books, and his contributions to the Elden Ring video game and upcoming movie projects.
Of course, such an explosion was inevitable, yet the author’s assertion isn’t off base. Readers have been clamoring for “The Winds of Winter” for a full decade, and when the book is finally released, any hidden secrets or plots will be exposed.
Regarding the Elden Ring movie, there’s currently no set release date. However, immerse yourself in the eerie realm of The Tarnished through Elden Ring: Nightreign (and let’s hope you don’t shatter your controller!).
