At the unveiling of Nintendo Switch 2, it was not unexpected that Elden Ring would be included in its lineup, given that the new console boasts more power than the initial Switch. However, considering the massive size of Elden Ring, there were questions about how smoothly it would run. Unfortunately, recent reports from Gamescom suggest that the game’s port may struggle with performance, running at a low frame rate. Additionally, staff members overseeing the demo have reportedly been preventing attendees from recording footage of the game.
According to Nintendo Life, video producer Felix Sanchez shared a video where he discussed his experience with Elden Ring on Switch 2. He stated that the gameplay performance was quite poor and it seemed understandable why they didn’t want people to see this, as the gameplay was reportedly disappointing. Furthermore, Sanchez mentioned that neither direct capture nor over-the-shoulder recording of gameplay was successful.
Indeed, it’s unlikely that you’ll experience the smooth gameplay of this one – it might just be released in its current state, although I find it hard to believe they would do so. The gameplay felt similar to playing Ocarina of Time. The frame rate was roughly 20 frames per second. At times, it even dipped down to 15 frames per second.
It’s important to mention that Sanchez primarily controlled the game using a handheld format, and for the most part, the game performed smoothly during its tutorial phase. However, upon transitioning into the expansive open-world portion of the game, the performance noticeably dropped significantly.
At the moment, there’s no confirmed release date for Elden Ring on Switch 2, despite plans to launch it this year. This provides a window for addressing any known performance issues, although we’ll only be able to assess how well the game runs on Switch 2 after its official release.
