Now that they’ve remade the 2006 RPG, fans are immersed in it, though they’re still left pondering about where The Elder Scrolls 6 might be. In other words, despite this surprise release, fans of Bethesda’s RPG series find themselves back at square one: speculating about the whereabouts of The Elder Scrolls 6.
Back in 2018, The Elder Scrolls 6 was initially announced, which was seven years ago. Since then, Bethesda Game Studios had primarily been working on Starfield until September 2023. Now, they’ve shifted their focus back to The Elder Scrolls 6. It’s unclear yet when we can expect a trailer for the upcoming game, but Todd Howard, the creative director of the series, has hinted at exciting developments for fans eagerly waiting since Skyrim. Moreover, he suggested that the new installment aims to set new standards in RPGs and open-world games for its generation.
Howard mentioned that we’re currently focusing on chapter six, but what makes The Elder Scrolls series so special is the ability to reflect upon all the previous chapters. Games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena each played a significant role in shaping role-playing games and open-world games for their respective eras.
While it may seem like a blend of public relations jargon and marketing hype, it’s important to remember that Bethesda Game Studios and Todd Howard made similar claims about Starfield, which ultimately didn’t live up to the hype in terms of revolutionizing RPGs or open-world games.
To put it simply, stating that The Elder Scrolls 6 will mirror the issues encountered with Starfield may raise enthusiasm among fans, but let’s hope that isn’t the case. It appears Bethesda tried to create a grandiose experience with Starfield, which resulted in extensive procedural generation and at times, a lack of depth. The Elder Scrolls 6 must learn from this misstep and avoid repeating it.
