Elder Scrolls Online Relaunches With Season 0, Here’s Everything That’s Being Added

After 22 years, The Elder Scrolls Online is changing how it releases new content. Starting in 2026, the game will move to a seasonal model, as announced last year by ZeniMax. This new approach begins with The Elder Scrolls Online Season 0 on April 2nd. ZeniMax recently detailed upcoming content in a livestream, and I got a sneak peek. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect from Season 0 and future seasons.

The first season of The Elder Scrolls Online, titled Dawn and Dusk, arrives on April 2nd, bringing new content and features for players. It also introduces the Tamriel Tome, a seasonal reward system similar to a Battle Pass. Each season is expected to last about 90 days. Developers have already shared some hints about what players can expect in future seasons beyond this initial release.

The Elder Scrolls Online Season 0 Introduces New Night Market Event Zone

On April 2nd, the Season 0 update will give players their first look at how seasonal content will work in ESO. While this first season has a bit less new stuff than future seasons will offer, it’s a great start and establishes a regular schedule of updates for The Elder Scrolls MMO.

Season 0 introduces The Night Market, a special, limited-time area in the Fargrave region of Oblivion. It will only be available for 7 weeks. When it opens, players can join one of three unique Factions. Each Faction offers different rewards and a storyline, and players will compete in PvE challenges to help their chosen side win.

During this event, you can choose to support one of three groups: the powerful Ruckus, the rich Glittering Goad, or the mysterious Thousand Eyes. As you play, you’ll gather relics to open up different parts of the Night Market. Your main goal is to help your chosen faction win to earn special rewards. Plus, if you participate in The Night Market during Season 0, you’ll receive a new, free player home called Night’s Den, on top of any faction rewards you earn.

A special Event Zone is launching with the start of Season 0, and the developers at ZeniMax suggest it will return regularly. Because the event features three distinct factions, players will probably want to play through it multiple times to collect all available rewards.

Challenge Difficulty Mixes Up Player Experience in The Elder Scrolls Online Season 0

For a long time, Elder Scrolls Online players have asked for the ability to adjust the difficulty of exploring the game world. That feature is now arriving with Season 0 on June 8th! It’s called Challenge Difficulty, and it will let you choose from four different difficulty levels for many areas. Higher difficulties mean better rewards, but also tougher enemies – perfect for experienced players looking for a greater challenge. If you don’t want to change the difficulty, you don’t have to – it will stay the same as it always has.

The upcoming Season 0 update for ESO will include several quality-of-life improvements. While customizable Challenge Difficulty is a major feature, players can also look forward to changes in PvP, combat, and the user interface. Combat will receive a visual update, and various systems will be rebalanced. These updates aim to make exploring Tamriel in ESO more enjoyable by reducing repetitive tasks and streamlining gameplay.

Season 0 is only the start of a new chapter for The Elder Scrolls Online. During a recent stream, ZeniMax revealed what’s coming next: a new story featuring the Thieves Guild will arrive with Season 1, alongside a challenging new puzzle area called The Sage’s Vault. Plus, the unpredictable daedric prince Sheogorath is returning to ESO, and we can expect plenty of chaos! ZeniMax also hinted that the game will return to Skyrim with a brand-new region planned for early 2027.
