So, huge news! Patrick Soderlund, the CEO of Embark Studios – the team behind ARC Raiders – just became Nexon’s executive chairman. Ever since ARC Raiders dropped late last year, everyone’s been talking about it. Seriously, it blew up! As of January 2026, we’re looking at over 12 million copies sold, which is insane. And to top it off, it even won Best Multiplayer Game at the 2025 Game Awards just over a month after release. Plus, the people working at Embark are seriously talented, which you can definitely tell in the game.
Patrick Soderlund is a veteran of the gaming industry with a long history at major studios. He began his career at Electronic Arts in 1996, working there for 12 years in roles ranging from designer to executive vice president. Before leaving EA in 2018, he also led DICE, the studio behind Battlefield, and then founded his own company, Embark Studios. Now, Soderlund is taking on a new leadership position at Nexon.
Nexon Names Embark CEO Patrick Soderlund As Executive Chairman
Okay, so big news for anyone who follows gaming companies – Nexon just brought on Patrick Soderlund, the founder of Embark Studios, as their new executive chairman. Basically, he’s going to be helping shape where Nexon goes with its games, not just creatively, but also how they build and release them worldwide. It sounds like he’ll be working closely with the current CEO, Junghun Lee, to lead the creative side of things, but he’s still staying on as CEO of Embark too. Soderlund himself seems really hyped about the move, saying Nexon has everything it needs to seriously level up and grow. It’s a pretty interesting shakeup, and I’m curious to see what kind of games come out of it!

Nexon has given a promotion to Soderlund, who previously led Embark Studios. This recognizes his successful history with the studio, which Nexon bought in 2021 before the release of its first game, The Finals. Soderlund previously led DICE, the company behind popular titles like Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, during a period of significant success. He also demonstrated his ability to identify promising games, as seen with the popularity of ARC Raiders.
Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders has been a huge hit since it launched in late October 2025. The developer has consistently supported the game with updates almost every week. The latest update, Headwinds, released in late January, added a new matchmaking option allowing players to go solo against squads, as well as a system for displaying trophies. It also introduced a new ‘Bird City’ variation of the Buried City map, featuring more ziplines, collectibles, and birds – including some unique collectibles.

The upcoming Shrouded Sky update introduces the Hurricane, a dynamic map modifier that significantly alters wind speeds and how players move. While active, the Hurricane will also offer valuable loot, challenging players to risk the strong winds for exclusive rewards. With Patrick Soderlund leading the charge, the continued growth and evolution of ARC Raiders—and its popularity—is looking promising for Nexon.
