Embark Studios recently hinted at a variety of new maps planned for ARC Raiders this year. With the new year underway, fans are eager for updates, as development had slowed recently. Dedicated players of the game are especially hoping for more areas to discover and explore.
Good news! Embark will soon share a roadmap for ARC Raiders, and it looks like we can expect several new maps to be released this year. These maps will offer a variety of different landscapes, sizes, and gameplay possibilities.
When is the Next ARC Raiders Map Coming?
Virgil Watkins, the design lead for ARC Raiders, recently discussed the game’s maps with GamesRadar, covering what’s been done, what’s currently available, and what’s coming next. The game received its first new map, Stella Montis, a few weeks ago – a smaller, more compact area designed for player-versus-player combat – and players are eager for even more new content.
Watkins explained that new maps offer more than just updated scenery; they’re chances to build completely different gameplay experiences with new environments, enemies, and challenges. Plus, each map adds new items to find and quests to complete, giving players even more to explore.
ARC Raiders isn’t like typical shooters such as Call of Duty, where new maps just offer a change of scenery. It offers a much more complex and involved experience.
He said to GamesRadar:
As a fan, what I’m really excited about is how the developers are constantly finding ways to keep the gameplay fresh. It’s not just about adding more stuff, but about letting us use what we already know in new and interesting ways. They’re asking questions like, ‘Can we use zip lines for something we hadn’t thought of before?’ or ‘How can the level design make tools like mines and noise makers even more useful?’ It’s all about giving us more options and letting us approach challenges with creativity.
Watkins then teased that multiple maps are coming this year:
We’re planning to release several new maps this year, with a variety of sizes to support different play styles. Some will be smaller and more focused, while others will be much larger than our current maps.
This is exciting news, particularly for players who enjoy the variety of maps currently available in ARC Raiders. Whether you prefer large, open areas like Blue Gate and Spaceport, or the tight, claustrophobic spaces of Stella Montis, there’s a map to suit every playstyle. It looks like Embark Studios is aiming to build on this strength, which is fantastic.
Watkins also explained what goes into the technical side of creating these new maps:
Beyond the basic functionality, we focus on how the game feels to play. This means carefully balancing things like how often enemies appear, how fast they move, how quickly areas become dangerous, and the number of players and drones in each location. We also consider how loot is distributed – both how common it is and how valuable it is – to create a balanced and engaging experience. All these details are crucial when designing these game areas.
