In RuneScape Dragonwilds, players need to activate four shrines around Emberwood village to lower the barrier. Each shrine presents either a puzzle to solve or enemies to defeat. Here’s how to activate them all, clear the barrier, and get a Cursed Fragment for the Withering Heights quest.

How to Activate Shrine 1

Okay, so I finally figured out the first shrine to break the barrier around Emberwood village! If you come in from Witchwillow Range, it’s right there at the entrance. All you have to do is chat with the three ghosts hanging around it – they’ll tell you this really sad story about a party gone wrong, and that’s it!

After speaking with all the ghosts, interact with the shrine. You’ll need to tell it they’re discussing a massacre that happened at the party, and that the Snickering Ghost was responsible. Choosing the correct answers will activate the first shrine.

How to Activate Shrine 2

The second shrine that powers the Emberwood village barrier is a short distance west of the first, within an area filled with tall, pillar-like structures. A Green Dragon mini-boss lives inside these structures, but you can sneak past it if you prefer.

If you’ve already unlocked the mount in RuneScape Dragonwilds, activating the second shrine will be much simpler. Just quickly run to the center of the structure while dodging the Green Dragon’s attacks.

Turn on the shrine, then immediately leave the area. If you decide to battle the Green Dragon, make sure you have at least tier 5 equipment, or the fight will be very difficult.

How to Activate Shrine 3

Okay, so I’ve found the first two shrines for Emberwood’s barrier, but the third one is a bit tricky! It’s located northeast of the first shrine, but just walking up to it doesn’t do anything. Apparently, you need to actually find a missing piece somewhere and put it into the shrine before it’ll activate. Good thing I like a challenge!

Good news! The final part for the third shrine is located wedged between the rocks right under the platform. Before you grab it, make sure you have some free space in your inventory. Once you have it, go back to the shrine platform and place the piece to activate the shrine. This will weaken the barrier around Emberwood village in RuneScape’s Dragonwilds Fellhollow.

How to Activate Shrine 4

Okay, so I finally found the last shrine in Emberwood village! It’s pretty far north of the third one, and it’s a bit tricky. It’s actually inside a locked building, and there’s no way to get in through a door or anything. The only way to access it is through a hatch on the second floor – gotta find a way up there!

To get into the building, use your Windstep ability to float up to the open hatch. Once inside, activate the fourth shrine to remove the barrier protecting Emberwood Village. Watch out when you leave – a group of zombies will attack you at the gate.

You can use the Windstep ability one more time to go back through the hatch and escape the zombies safely.

Okay, so I headed back to the entrance of Emberwood Village, and whoa – all four shrines were glowing! That meant the barrier was down, finally. I rushed inside and grabbed the Curse Fragment (Grief) from this glowing green stone. One fragment down, and I’m making real progress with the Withering Heights quest in RuneScape Dragonwilds!
