Embracer Group has sold two of its smaller game studios, Arc Games and Cryptic, for approximately $30 million. The buyer is Project Golden Arc, Inc. While the studios are changing ownership, Embracer will continue to own the rights to publish games in the Remnant series, which is currently handled by Arc Games.
The deal is intended to help Embracer Group concentrate on its most important games and properties, and to boost its financial performance and cash flow.
Two More Gone from Embracer
Over the past year and a half, Embracer Group has been closing or selling off many of its game development studios. This began after a $2 billion deal fell through, requiring the company to significantly restructure its business.
Since then, Embracer Group has significantly reduced its workforce, canceled nearly 100 projects, and sold off several of its major studios, including Saber Interactive for $500 million and Gearbox for $460 million.
Okay, so big news – Arc Games and Cryptic Studios are moving out from under Embracer Group. It seems like a pretty smart move for them, a way to chart their own course, you know? It’s like they’re leveling up and going independent.
In a statement, Embracer’s CEO, Phil Rogers, said:
This deal helps us focus on our most important games and technologies within Embracer Group, and will improve our financial performance. We’re also pleased that Fellowship, a multiplayer game created by a skilled team in Stockholm, will continue development with Coffee Stain Group. We want to thank the teams at Arc and Cryptic for their dedication over the past four years and wish them continued success in the future.
Project Golden Arc is acquiring these two companies and is being led by the team in charge of Arc Games.
The company announced that the deal is expected to close once all standard requirements are met.
