Released in April 2021, A Fumble in the Dark is a funny, pixel-art adventure game that continues the story of The Darkside Detective from 2017. Players once again follow paranormal detective Francis McQueen and his partner Patrick Dooley as they investigate new, strange cases in the cursed town of Twin Lakes. The game received mostly positive reviews, earning an 83% recommendation rate and an average score of 81 on OpenCritic, resulting in a “Strong” rating. As of early 2026, it also boasts “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, with over 1,500 player reviews. Overall, The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is considered one of the best point-and-click adventure games of 2021.

This is the first game from UK-based Balloon Studios, and it received very positive reviews when it came out in April 2024. In the game, you play as Arabella Greene, a retired botanist who inherits an old manor house in England. She uses the manor to research and grow magical plants, figuring out exactly what each plant needs to thrive. Solving the puzzles involves exploring the manor and discovering the right conditions. Reviewers have praised Botany Manor for its relaxing feel and simple art style, saying it nicely combines exploration with clever problem-solving. The game has an average score of 83 on OpenCritic, and 91% of reviewers recommend it, earning it a “Strong” rating.
