Epic Games Store Officially Reveals 2 Free Games for December 4

The Epic Games Store is giving away two free games starting December 4th: The Jackbox Party Pack 4 and The Darkside Detective. This is the first time in nearly seven years that a game from The Jackbox Party Pack series will be available for free on the platform, and players have one week to add it to their library.

Jackbox Games, a company based in Chicago, has been creating The Jackbox Party Pack series of party games since 2014. The first pack was given away for free on the Epic Games Store in January 2019, but none of the later installments have been offered as freebies—until now.

The Jackbox Party Pack 4 Explained

The Jackbox Party Pack 4 is a highly popular installment in the Jackbox series, earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam from over 1,900 players. It features five fun mini-games designed for 2 to 16 players. In Fibbage 3, players combine trivia and bluffing: they’re given a strange fact with a missing piece and have to make up a believable lie to trick others, while also trying to guess the correct answer. Meanwhile, Survive the Internet is a humorous game where players respond to simple questions, but their answers are then shared out of context, and they have to reframe them in a funny or outrageous way.

All The Jackbox Party Pack 4 Mini-Games

  • Fibbage 3 (2-8 players)
  • Survive the Internet (3-8 players)
  • Monster Seeking Monster (3-7 players)
  • Bracketeering (3-16 players)
  • Civic Doodle (3-8 players)

The Jackbox Party Pack 4 includes a unique dating game called Monster Seeking Monster, where players secretly play as monsters with special powers that affect how everyone interacts. Over six rounds, players send messages to try and win dates, either by charming, bribing, or tricking each other. You get points when two players both pick each other! But things get tricky because monster powers can change the game, like by redirecting messages. The pack also features two other fun group games: Bracketeering, where you predict the outcomes of silly questions with ever-changing rules, and Civic Dooble, a competitive drawing game where everyone works together to ‘beautify’ the town.

The Darkside Detective Explained

Also free on the Epic Games Store this December 4th is The Darkside Detective, a unique point-and-click adventure game. You play as a detective solving spooky, paranormal cases in the town of Twin Lakes. Think of it as a funny mix of Twin Peaks and The X-Files. The game features a great soundtrack by Ben Prunty, who also composed the music for FTL and Subnautica: Below Zero, and has received almost 2,000 “Very Positive” reviews on Steam.
