The Epic Games Store is giving away Rustler as a free game on January 22nd. This fun and chaotic game, inspired by the classic GTA series, is normally priced around $25 and is the seventh free game offered by the Epic Games Store this January.
From January 8th through January 14th, Epic Games offered the popular tower defense game Bloons TD 6 for free. Now, they’re kicking off 2026 with their first dual-game giveaway, featuring both games in Cyanide’s Styx series.
Epic Games Store Is Giving Away Rustler Next Week
Right after giving away free games on January 15th, the Epic Games Store announced its next freebie: Rustler. You’ll be able to download this wild, open-world action game for free from January 22nd to January 29th, starting and ending at 8am Pacific Time, 11am Eastern Time, or 5pm Central European Time. This is the first time Rustler has been available for free on the Epic Games Store.
Epic Games Store Free Games Right Now
| Freebie | Value | Free Period |
|---|---|---|
| Styx: Master of Shadows | $19.99 | Jan 15 – Jan 22 |
| Styx: Shards of Darkness – Deluxe Edition | $19.99 | Jan 15 – Jan 22 |
| Rustler – Grand Theft Horse | $24.99 | Jan 22 – Jan 29 |
The game is known as Rustler on consoles, but was originally released on PC as Rustler – Grand Theft Horse. It’s heavily inspired by classic GTA games, offering a sprawling open world where you can cause plenty of chaos from a bird’s-eye view. However, Rustler has a unique medieval setting. The fast-paced action is combined with witty writing, leading some critics to compare it to an interactive Monty Python sketch.
Epic Games Store users can currently claim two games, Styx: Master of Shadows and Shards of Darkness, while they wait for the January 22nd free game. Both games, developed by Cyanide, are set before the events of their 2012 action RPG, Of Orcs and Men, but offer a different style of gameplay. Instead of action, these are stealth games that focus on careful planning and patience. Originally, Epic announced the standard version of Shards of Darkness as a free game for January 15th, but players will actually receive the more complete Deluxe Edition.
The free games currently available on the Epic Games Store are a preview of Styx: Blades of Greed, Cyanide’s newest game launching on February 19th. This game continues the story before the events of Of Orcs and Men, taking place after Shards of Darkness but still not revealing how the war between humans and the orc-goblin alliance ends. Blades of Greed builds on the stealth gameplay of Cyanide’s previous games, offering players large, open environments to explore and encouraging them to be resourceful. It promises more ways to sneak around and extra things to discover compared to earlier titles.
‘Dumb Ways to Die’ Is Epic’s Latest Mobile Freebie
Hey everyone, great news! Epic Games is giving away Dumb Ways to Die for free on mobile! I usually have to pay $4.99 for it, but you can grab it through the Epic Games Store app right now until January 22nd. It’s the same silly, catchy game based on that public service announcement – basically, you see all sorts of ridiculous ways characters meet their end, all set to really addictive music. Android users everywhere can get it, but if you’re on iOS, it’s only available in the European Union and Japan right now because those are the only places with access to alternative app stores for iPhones.
