Epic Games Store Officially Reveals Its December 21 Free Game

The Epic Games Store is giving away the survival horror game Sorry We’re Closed for free on December 21st. It’s the fifth free game offered during their 2025 holiday promotion, and it recently won an award over Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You can claim it for the next 24 hours.

Epic Games Store kicked off its holiday freebies on December 11th by giving away Hogwarts Legacy for a week. Starting December 18th, they switched to their usual format: a different free game every day. The first three games offered were Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, Eternights, and Blood West, released in that order.

The Epic Games Store has a new free game! After giving away Blood West, they’re now offering Sorry We’re Closed as part of their holiday promotion. You have 24 hours to add it to your library, starting December 21st. The offer ends on Monday, December 22nd at 8am Pacific Time, 11am Eastern Time, or 5pm Central European Time.

Developed by the British studio à la mode games, Sorry We’re Closed is a survival horror game with a retro look and a unique way of switching perspectives. It blends the classic fixed camera angles of games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill with moments of first-person shooting. Players control Michelle, who has a special magical ability called the Third Eye, allowing her to see into another world. This ability is key to exploring, solving puzzles, and fighting enemies. Critics have praised the game’s diverse gameplay and vibrant neon visuals, giving it a “Strong” rating on OpenCritic with an average score of 82 and an 86% recommendation rate. Players also love it, with “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam and high ratings of 4.51 and 4.4 stars on the PlayStation and Xbox stores.

Sorry We’re Closed Just Took a Major Award from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The game Sorry We’re Closed launched on PC in late 2024 and came to consoles this March. It recently won the Debut Game award at the 2025 Indie Game Awards after another game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, was disqualified for using AI-generated art during its creation. While the AI-created assets were temporary and no longer in the final game, the awards organizers, Six One Indie, have a firm rule against using AI. All nominees had previously confirmed they followed this rule.
