Epic Games Store Officially Reveals Unique Free Game for April 16

Epic Games Store is giving away The Stone of Madness as a free game on April 16th, along with another free game available now for PC players. Set in Spain during the Bourbon era, The Stone of Madness combines stealth and strategy, and it will be the most expensive game Epic has ever offered for free in April 2026.

So far this year, less than a third of the free games offered each week on the Epic Games Store have usually cost more than $20. The last of these higher-priced games was Isonzo, a $29.99 World War I shooter, and the offer ended on March 19th.

Unique Tactical Stealth Game ‘The Stone of Madness’ Is Epic’s Next Freebie

Epic Games is giving away another free game! This time it’s The Stone of Madness, a tactical stealth game developed by The Game Kitchen. Originally released in January 2025 to good reviews, the game puts you in control of a group of prisoners attempting to escape a monastery in 18th-century Spain. You can get it for free on the Epic Games Store from April 16th to April 23rd, starting and ending at 8 a.m. Pacific Time / 11 a.m. Eastern Time / 5 p.m. Central European Time.

Currently, The Stone of Madness is the second week in a row that Epic Games is offering only one free game instead of the usual two. However, they recently had a special offer where Tomak: Save the Earth was available for two weeks, and that deal will continue until the next free game is released.

So far in 2026, the Epic Games Store has given away 26 free items – 22 games and 4 downloadable content packs – with a total value of $644.76. Their 27th free offering is Prop Sumo, a fun party game where 2-6 players control everyday objects in silly battles across different arenas. What makes Prop Sumo special is that it was free on launch day – just one hour after it became available on April 9th, Epic removed the $9.99 price tag. The game includes over 40 playable props, 22 weapons, and nine maps. There’s also a practice mode called a “dojo” where players can learn the controls and try out different items before playing with others.

Prop Sumo is an online party game where you can create private matches with customized settings, giving the host full control. A unique feature is the ‘friend pass’ – if one person owns the game, up to six friends can play with them for free! Any progress or unlocks earned through the friend pass will carry over if a player later purchases the full game. These unlocks include new outfits, special powers, and different props to use in the game. This offer comes about 18 months after the developer, Barrel Roll Games, first partnered with the Epic Games Store to offer their game Witch It as a free download. This makes Prop Sumo the second game from the German indie studio to be given away for free on the Epic Games Store.
